Charlie has been having some medical problems since last month. A couple of trips to the emergency room came back with conflicting diagnoses. First they told him that he had pneumonia, then diabetes, then congestive heart failure.

Yesterday, they removed his gallbladder. He is currently in the ICU.

I am going to post his daughter's comments from this morning below and I will post updates as they occur:

I just spoke with Dad's nurse in ICU. They've taken off his big oxygen mask (sorry, don't remember what it's called), but they will be switching it out with the traditional one throughout the day. His kidney numbers still aren't great, but they said they will have to continue flushing his system to get those better. His blood pressure is fluctuating between low-normal and low, as it has been since the surgery. Basically, his gallbladder was rotten and it caused a bad infection which inflamed the surrounding organs and was beginning to cause big problems. They have allowed him to have some pain medication again and they will begin giving him clear liquids in a little bit, so that will make him happy. Please keep those prayers coming!

Prayers for his fast and full recovery. Take good care of one of our favorite LEO's.

Thanks for sharing and prayers sent for rapid recovery. I had my gallbladder removed about 3.5 years ago and sailed through it no prob. The operation lasts between 45 minutes to no more than 90 minutes. I was in hospital about 3-4 days. Charlie will sail right through recovery. Please send my best to he and his family.

Prayers and best wishes for Charlie. That's a serious condition when it's gotten to that point. Sounds like he's getting good care, and on his way back to full speed soon!

I had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago. I had a 'gallbladder attack' which, at the time, they thought I was having a heart attack. Not a good time. Doctor told me I could have had serious problems if I waited much longer to have it removed. I'm glad Charlie is getting good care now.

They also said its the most common type of surgery. Everyone says how they are fine after, but my digestion/stomach has never been right since then.

Get well soon Charlie!

I had gall bladder attacks off/on for a couple years before they removed it. I'm sure Charliee will be fine. Send him our get well soon wishes.

Prayers sent for Charlie and his family for a full recovery! I will add him to the list when I read the prayers at mass in the AM.
