I intended to post a reply to a comment on an existing S&W Forum thread on Charter Arms (CA) revolvers. (I did a Google search on Charter Arms Facebook groups, and the S&W Forum was one of the results of my search.)

I am a very big fan of and own several Smith and Wesson revolvers in various calibers. I was very surprised to see a CA discussion on an S&W Forum.

I joined the forum at this time to ask a CA-related question. After joining, I did not know how to find the CA thread, and took the liberty of starting a new one.

Charter Arms went through several iterations over a period of several decades, manufacturing their products in Southport, Bridgeport, Stratford, Ansonia, and Shelton, Connecticut.

I am trying to determine if, in the 1980s, CA made their 6-shot, 38 Special Police Undercover model IN STAINLESS STEEL WITH A SHROUDED EJECTOR ROD in Stratford. Thank you for any information.

Thanks for posting the pics! I believe those grips and the pocket hammer were standard on the stainless steel models when the Police Undercover was first introduced in 1984/1985, with the blue Police Undercovers having regular spur hammers and checkered wood grips.

I have seen pictures of blue Police Undercovers with a ejector rod shroud in a Charter Arms catalog from the 1980s and a Shooter's Bible from 1990. I have never seen a picture anywhere of a stainless steel made-in-Stratford Police Undercover from the 1980s that has an ejector shroud. I don't think they exist.
