Charter Arms Trade

I bought a used Bridgeport gun on my 21st birthday as it was all I could afford. I still have it. I carried it as a woods bumming and back 40 chore gun with complete satisfaction and confidence for that task. This was before we were all told that we needed 10mms and 44 magnums for grizzly bears, crazed drug gangs and meth heads that permeate every patch of woods larger than a half acre. 158 grain lswc reloads from the local gun store were accurate enough and what I could afford. I moved on to more refined and expensive guns but have maintained a sentimental attachment to that little Charter Arms. When it began to spit lead I sent it back to the mothership in the late 1980s. They retimed it and reblued it...for 12 bucks! They are solid little guns.

Recently got a Bridgeport Bulldog… it's magic, like a J-frame with a 4! Really want a set of the old-style Pachs for it, if anyone has a set they're not using?
I put a pair of Pach presentations on mine. It makes a big difference in controllability. Got mine off eBay, but that was about three years back.

I like the Charters and have owned a few. I've only had to have one repaired and it was an all stainless Pathfinder. 22 with a 3" barrel. They fitted a new cylinder and bolt and returned it cleaned with 6 snap caps. My other Charter is a .44 Bulldog with what I consider a mandatory pair of Pachmayr grips. They are solid guns and btw have you ever noticed the marked similarity to the Ruger revolvers with the frame mounted firing pin, transfer bar, coil spring and side plate-less frame?

The Charter Arms .38 Boxer, 6 shot , I like it. A local shop took it in on trade it was NIB. They gave me a call, got it cheap..........be sure to keep ejector rod cap tight :-)

I always thought that Charter Arms revolvers were one of the best values out there. This is five shots at 15 yards from mine while standing, two-handed, double action and unsupported.

Interesting range trip today, firing both Charter Bulldog and S&W 457 with near-identical handloads (230g vs 240g bullet, identical CFE charge.) Bulldog has recoil, that's fer sure! 457 carries 2 more rounds and easier to shoot.

Congratulations on the trade! I own a 3" Bridgeport 44 special Bulldog and think they are great little revolvers for the money. I've heard over and over that the Bridgeport guns were the best.

I'm content with mine so far, but I'm also aware that it's not a gun for continuous heavy loads. It is basically a J frame sized gun.

It's on top of a 638 in this photo.

Your hand will give out before the CA does, ESPECIALLY if you are firing the .44 Bulldog.

I remember reading an article somewhere, maybe in an old edition of Gun Digest, about shooting some very hot .44 handloads in a BD without any issues. Personally, I normally use fairly light handloads in mine for casual shooting.
