Charter Arms Bulldog/44 Special...Thoughts?

Just recently found a son of sam special, early Bridgeport model. After insuring the easily lost little washers were in place, it functioned properly. First tried it with my standard 200 gn gdhp load (bout 870 fps from 696), and it was brutal, 100 fps lower and poi way low at 25 yds. Then removed the flesh eating rasp/sharp edges from face of trigger, smoothed over the medieval torture device at top/rear of grips and followed some handloading advise from this board. 250 gn keith style lead bullet with 5.5 grains unique for practice (bout 650 fps) and 6.0 gns unique (bout 700 fps) for effect.

It now shoots to poa and has more tolerable recoil. The grips need relieved (or buy newer style) for positive shell extraction, and recut the muzzle crown.

The pistol has very shallow rifling, rough cylinder chambers and rough/larger chamber throats. While annoying, it may help keep pressures down. However can now keep hits on silhouette at 25 yds, and keep em where i want em doulble action at 7 yds.

Not bad for $325, and going to keep it. It's very light and likely easily concealable with good holster.

I have owned two Charter Arms revolvers in my life; a .357 and a 44 Special. Though neither one had the quality "feel" of a Colt or S&W, both guns were 100% reliable and never gave me any trouble. Both guns were purchased from me by friends who wanted them. I especially don't know why I ever sold the 44.

Now I am seriously considering buying a .45 ACP Pitbull. No moon clips!
