Well normally I donate to every raffle but found out today I won a Charter Arms Stainless Shamrock green frame Undercover .38 5 shot!

Things have been rough lately with issues with my son so this was a nice surprise. My FFL is waiting on delivery but he has sold a few normal blue or stainless ones over the past 6 months and folks are pleased and they seem pretty solid.

Funny thing is I've been looking for an upgrade to my carry gun which is an LCP. A friend of mine was robbed at a local gas station and I've been doing some reading about defense and I like the idea of a +P .38 that is still concealable. I got the little .380 for ease of carry. I can use the gun no problem but my wife cannot. My wife has arthritis and we have a 15-3 with Pachmayrs as our home defense gun with a Wolff kit I installed that she can use easy. I had her try to rack the slide on the LCP and no luck as she also has Lupus and issues with hand strength. She doesn't want to fire it as she can only get two fingers on the little Ruger and is afraid she'll drop it.

I prefer an exposed hammer and been looking at a 637. I know I would probably get a slightly bigger grip and do a spring kit as well. Im not a fan of the the lock. I've been looking at local shops for a used one and researched how to remove the lock. I have a buddy who is willing to buy the LCP and I have a stock pile of .38 and reload so that helps cost wise. I haven been selling off some guns and taken some side jobs to finance a trip to be with our son. He is in the service far away but injured his back and needs disk replacement. My wife is able to go so one of us will be with him. Lousy time to consider another gun but my confidence in the .380 isn't there any more especially if my wife has to use it. So a free gun is perfect timing!

I did some research and Charter Arms are American made, no internal lock, only 12 oz vs the 10 oz LCP and seem to already come with nice grips. It's weird seeing such a colorful gun with the green frame and stainless barrel and cylinder. I hope the trigger is ok. Exposed hammer plus big soft grips should mean the wife can handle this in an emergency plus no need to spend more on grips and the lock removal.

I know Charter has been through rough times but I hear their customer service is top notch and they respond quickly to any issues so that's a bonus. Can't wait to try it out!

Anyone else have a newer Charter Arms? Anything to look for or any issues? Do you like it?

Thanks

I'm a big fan of Charter Arms, and own this original ca. 1972 Bridgeport Undercover. I own several J frames, but actually shoot this CA better than the Smiths. I bought a new generation SS Bull Dog last year for my son for his ranch truck, and he loves it. CA went through some "transitional" issues in the 1990's, but have overcome them.:)

Three CA's

One of the three Charter Arms revolver's I have is a really old .44spl Bulldog, the other two purchased around 3 years ago. One is 44 bulldog the other is the .38spl 6 shot Police Undercover. The old one did a lot of time CC. The two new ones are really nice, trigger's are good. I bought some Altamont grips and change them around when the mood hits.
The 6 shot .38 spent CC time during a road trip from Tennessee to Benson AZ and back last year, a few times I forgot I was wearing it. I enjoyed walking around Tombstone AZ streets with it concealed imaging shooting outlaws in the streets.
I don't know if I could get used to the "Green" but the little Charter Arms should be fine IMO.
I think this is correct.
Top: 44spl Rosewood Grips. Bottom: .38spl 6 shot Silverback.
Since this pic was taken I have swapped grips between the two CA's.

I have carried a Charter Arms Bull Dog 44 spl. for the last few years. I have not had any problem with the gun and it seems very solid and well made. I really like this gun and the 44 spl round.
Show us some pics when you get some.
