Merry Christmas everyone (we're still allowed to say that, right?)

Was looking for x-grip mag adapter for 9c & saw price $10 on CheaperThanDirt. Problem was, shipping was $12. Thought it was a mistake but no. Where they shipping it from, Hong Kong?
Think maybe there's some hidden charges there.

Went to Amazon, got it for $14, no shipping charge.

I once ordered some UZI mags from CTD. When they quoted me the shipping fee's, I told them that unlike most, I was not in a rush to get the mags, & that I could wait weeks if they chose a cheaper method to ship. They then told me they would charge me $5 for shipping, but it might be 3 weeks to get the package. I said that's cool, as I already had 10 mags, but these would be extra. The mags arrived in 8 days. I bet the OP didn't ask for the 3 week shipping method. GARY

You guys are right, after seeing the gouging they were doing after Sandy Hook, I'll never spend another dime there. I understand it's capitalism at it's best, but us consumers who put these people in business were getting screwed over by them just to make a quick buck. I hope they lost a lot of business because of it.

With USPS "if it fits it ships" priority mail boxes, there's no reason for small, items like mags to EVER cost more than $6.00 to ship, and if the package weighs less than 16 oz. It can ship for less than that.

There are a bunch of sellers out there where I've dumped my 'shopping cart' after viewing the Shipping Charges, especially if they don't offer USPS as an option. You gotta remember that if UPS/FedEx is all they use, the Minimum shipping charge, regardless of size/weight, is going to default to at least $8.

MidwayUSA used to tack on an extra 'handling' fee for orders under $28 (perhaps to get people to place larger orders? Who knows?), but they seem to have done away with that charge. They've been advertising a 'new shipping policy', but again... If the package goes UPS/FedEx, it ain't gonna be cheap, regardless of who the vendor is.

I ordered a barrel conversion last week from them for my 40MPc. Shipping was a touch high, however I couldn't find it in stock anywhere else. $16 for shipping a small fairly light item is certainly not cheaper than dirt.

That's why "Cheaper than Dirt" is such a good business name. It could mean anything. There are some places where dirt isn't very cheap.

Speaking of cheap shipping and coming from Hong Kong, I ordered 20 of these knives off eBay to use as Christmas giveaways...$.99 apiece and FREE SHIPPING!

I had them in hand in less than a week. Everyone I gave them to was very appreciative - apparently they were being advertised for $3-$5 around the 'net.

This sums it up pretty well. There are many businesses out there that offer great prices without adding rip-off shipping and handling fees. There are also many businesses that seem to thrive on scams and BS charges to pad their profits. I realize that it can differ from person to person and experience to experience, so I'm not going to get into a discussion about if anyone agrees with me about a certain place or not. However, my experiences with a few places seem to mirror the experiences of many.

CTD, Bud's Gun Shop, and Botach are a few of the places I watch for scams very closely. I will particularly never do any business with Bud's Gun Shop. Way too many problems and shady practices. I have done business with Botach before with no issues, but it's hard to dismiss the experiences of others that have had issues and their inventory system does suck. CTD, is just always way too expensive once shipping is added. I shouldn't have to call them for cheaper shipping, it should be offered at checkout.

Like I said, everyone has their own experiences and suggestions, but the bottom line is to always check the final price before submitting an order and always try to wait for deals such as coupon codes or free shipping that help offset the additional charge(s).

I found some 327 Starline brass for a reasonable $29.10/100 from a supplier in Texas. It was an outfit I've heard of so started the order but just before I hit the confirmation button, I saw the total price of $47.06. WHAT! $17.06 for shipping 100 pieces of unprimed brass!!!! Won't be back there again.

Check the bottom line before you commit your money.

On the flip side of the coin is Grafs, where they charge a flat $7.95 shipping. If you want a $3 magazine spring, that's a bad deal. If you want a case of shotgun shells (ordered Tuesday, due to be delivered tomorrow) it's pretty sweet.

Grafs is a great company to buy from.
