cheated on smith and wesson

I bought a Rock Island 45 Tactical last year. Great to shoot and it's well made. I have several hundred rounds through it and it's very accurate. Highly recommend 'em.

I know the feeling. There's a CZ 75 Shadow with my name on it.

You will like it. I have two of them. I have a 2011 Rail gun and a GI 1911. The GI I keep set up as a .22 with a Kimber rimfire conversion.

I've had my 5" Tactical model for a few years & a few K rounds. Probably the best bang for the buck you'll find in a 1911. They have a rep for being accurate, solid & well made.

A friend who is into high end guns said it was "more accurate than it has any right to be" at $540 OTD in Kalifornistan.:D

If you need it (I haven't) their customer service in Nevada is reputed to be top drawer.

Some owners of the higher end 1911 like to sniff & smugly declare "You get what you pay for." In the RIA's case I think you actually get more.

I had one about 10 years ago for $225 NIB. It was very rudimentary, but was the best 1911, dollar for dollar, at the lower price level. I did a lot of comparison shopping before buying it. Since then, the quality has only improved, and though the pricing is up to ~$500, I still don't think there's anything that gives similar value for the price. You can also improve it with aftermarket parts, so at the very least, it offers a solid platform to upgrade.

It won't win any beauty contests, or bragging rights, but it is a rock solid pistol and a great shooter. RIA has excellent customer service, if you should need it.

These are not bad guns, but don't be surprised if some of the parts break if you actually shoot it a lot. The piece I see breaking most often is the slide stop....don't know if the part is weak or the barrel and lugs are misfit. Also lugs have been known to separate from the barrel.

These comments also apply to Taurus 1911s.

I bought one about 3 years ago and have been very pleased with it. Seems well made and couldn't beat the price. My only gripe with it was the factory smooth wood grips, so I put a pair of Hogues on mine:

I have two. I purchased a Match model NIB from a friend. Very tight. Great shooter. I've used it as an IDPA gun.

The second is a Tactical model.

I've only shot 230 grn FMJ through them. No problems.

As others have said, good deal for the $$.

Bought one several years ago for $300. Had a gunsmith "work his magic" on it. Smoothed it up and put on some Pachmayr grips. It shot like a champ.

My daughter and son-in-law were looking for a good model 1911, so I gave it to them. My son-in-law loves it and says he'll never get rid of it. One of the best shooting guns he's ever tried.

Great bang for the buck. Pun intended.

I obtained a "Compact" model (size of Officers model) a few years ago, put a beaver-tail grip safety and installed better sights. It shoots nearly as well as my Springfield and Gold Cup do at 10 yards. The short sight radius lets it open the groups up at 25 yards, but would have no problem qualifying with it. Solid gun, I "adjusted" the trigger pull to a clean 4lbs and it behaves well. A lot of gun for the money.

Agree, Rocks are by far the best bang for your buck in 1911s.
And, their service exceeds even S&Ws in my experience.
When new, this one failed to feed several times in each 100 rounds fired.
Parumph sent a pickup order and had it back in about a week, keeping me informed all the way.
After a new recoil spring (DUH!), it runs flawlessly and is every bit as accurate in my hands as are several other 1911s, which cost 3X as much:

A friend just bought one in 38 Super. As soon as I run some handloads (no dies yet), we'll shoot it and I'll give a report.
