Haven't for over 20 years now or more, gave up because I was always out of balance and the bank is always right. Pay all my bills on line and use debit card for almost everything else. Keep a blank check or two in my wallet for what ever reason that may arise. Bet I write a check about once every other month if that. Back in the old days I would write checks for just about everything up to 8 or 10 a day, drove me nuts.

Now I go on line to check my bank account and do bill payer, much simplier. Heck, when my bank statement comes in the mail I don't even open it up. Guess I better tell them to go paperless to save a tree or two.

Chunk the checkbook. Pay via online. No checks or account numbers for someone to use against you. Do the same with your CC. I have a minor inconvenience in that some one tried to use my cc for a $500. transaction about 800 miles from where I am. CC company denied the transaction. All is well except I have to wait for 4-5 days for a new cc. They offered to FedEx it to me but I don't need it that fast. YMMV.

I write one check a month, pay everything by debit and track my account online so I always know right to the penny without having to write stuff down. I have a drawer full of unused check registers.

I still use the check register even though I only write 8-10 checks a month. Every transaction, whether debit or check, gets written down and I reconcile my checkbook as soon as the statement comes in. My wife does on-line payment of some bills.

I use online payment for everything I possibly can. Of the batch of 20 checks in my checkbook right now, the first one was written in 2007. Six were used for layaway payments on a 5" Model 27. Three to the IRS. One voided to set up automatic deposit at work. One for the initial rent payment and security deposit on the apartment. Figure I'll finally use up the last of the remaining nine around 2020. Unless I find another S&W to put on layaway... ;)

I do maintain a standard check register, even though I do all banking and most bill paying electronically. The only checks I write are to the city for my water bill, I don't trust them my electronic information, or to one of my many SIL's or the MIL who always seem to have some sort of emergency or another.

Same here... I keep a check register up to date even though the majority of my bills are paid on-line and most of my purchases are through a debit card. Check my on-line statement at least daily. Guess I'm just a creature of habit when it comes to the old paper register. I no longer get monthly paper statements though.

I like cash. Do you think we will ever stop using cash? If it's just paper to paper and no cash is involved do we really have money?

I still use my check register, but I don't write many checks.

I use a checkbook w/ register. I do not do debit cards, etc. I routinely find that my acct. register is in balance w/ the bank. I write maybe 15-20 checks a month... maybe more. It's no big deal. Simple process.

My wife pays house-hold bills on-line due to available discounts. And we use a cc for making on-line purchases due to the protections it affords in dealing with any potential issues. Only actually needed to use such protection one time. Bought some ammo on-line. Seller shipped wrong product... insisted I keep it and pay, then said would accept return at 20% charge plus shipping, then threatened to have me arrested. Turned everything over to MasterCard. Fine folks. Seller ended up having to pay everything involved in return. Very cool. Would not likely have gotten similar results if I'd paid by any other means.

I keep a check register and write down checks(very few) and all debit card transactions....online banking accounts are not a good way to keep track "to the penny" some transactions do not show for several days depending on how the business sends/posts transactions.....

Duplicate Checks & Spreadsheet

I do not use the provided checkbook register.

I get and use duplicate check books.

Record check into computer spreadsheet.

Makes figuring expenses, taxes, insurance, etc at tax time easy.

I use it regularly on the 4-5 checks we write a month. All else is electronic payments.

For the past few years I have been paying most bills online with a CC since we get 1% reward (2% travel/restaurants). Of course, the balance needs to be paid off monthly to make it work. It's amazing how it accumulates (usually we just get Amazon gift cards with the bonus.) I might write 1-2 checks monthly - usually a charity. It's no wonder the Post Office is hurting - our stamp purchases have dwindled. I check our accounts online almost daily just to make sure everything is good - the CC payment is an ACH payment withdrawn from checking. I enter most things in a register, but am not fanatic about it like I used to be.

This is why they created the "Quicken" software - it can track all your financial transactions, including scheduling them ahead of time, and reminding you when the due date is coming up. There is no reason to do any of this on papyrus.

Nope, didn't use the register even when I wrote checks. I was a bartender for a while and dealt in cash. After that, I just stayed above the broke line, therefore, I always knew about how much money I had, right down to the cheeseburger. I still have to do some mental math before I decide big lunch or cold cuts from the fridge.

I write a few checks, as well as use a debit card. I write every transaction in a register, and also reconcile it each month with the monthly bank statement. It always ends up correct to the penny. I guess I'm old school, as well as anal retentive. I do, however, know at any given moment how much money I have.

I use the register as a saving tool. I always round debits and check amounts up to the next dollar amount. Every few months there's a $100 "error" in my favor. Joe

:) My wife uses them for the few checks she wrights. She also checks our account most every day and if doesn't balance she gets mad at me. Don
