Pawn shops that also sell guns can be a great source in lean times. No you probably won't find ammo. But if they loan on guns, those guns will come out of pawn if the person that owns it doesn't pick it up.

I picked up a little used J frame for a good price today. Right time. Right place.

I also dug through an odds and ends box and found several hi cap magazines and speed loaders.

I have checked Augusta, GA pawn shops for 9 years. I found no firearm worth buying but got a great deal on a Pioneer 6-pack CD player. Pawn shop price $50, stereo store price $265 for new, used works good in the garage.

There are six pawn shops in town. They know what I like and two of them call me first and the others call me sometimes. A couple of others call friends of mine and we sometimes flip deals to each other, especially if we already have a piece. I have found a lot of stuff over the years and enjoy meeting with friends and shop owners at the shops. I have several shops that call me and ask me how to price some items. If I don't know Jr. or I will do a little research. We've help make them some money and they've given us some good deals. Recently I was sitting in a shop when a guy came in with four guns and a bunch of ammo. The owner signaled me to the back room where I told him what I'd do on one of the guns and some of the ammo. After about 15 minutes the seller got what he wanted, I got what I wanted, and the shop owner doubled his money after I made a call and sold what was left over the phone.

I have never found any decent gun at a pawn shop for any kind of reasonable price since I left Memphis. The ones around here are terrible, overpriced junk mainly. The closest one is run by a real piece of work, rude, arrogant and won't deal at all. I'll never go back there again. The next closest one no longer sells unclaimed guns to the public, he sells them all to the Gander Mountain down the road. Haven't found anything worth buying at any pawn shop in Ohio I've gone into.

Both of these first model S&W New Departures were found in pawn shops in the last month. Blued one with holster was $160, nickle plated one was $60.Both left the factory between 1890-1894.

We have some good ones in my neighborhood---unfortunately----they are suffering the same as others these days---they can't keep them long.
Blessings

I've tried some here and all they have is over priced junk. My buddy used to have a pawn shop and I got some nice guns from him at good prices. Unfortunately he sold the shop and that ended that. New owner quit dealing in guns.

I have a couple around me and check them a couple times a month. One has nice rifles but is way overpriced $190 for a marlin 60. The other has guns that they want to much for and are in bad shape, the first time I went in and looked at a rifle they had the guy said that it just came out of pond and I thought he said they just got it out of a pond might of been the condition of the firearm that made me here it.

found a pawn shop near me that sold guns but you could tell that they were things wanna be gang bangers were running around with. Dinged up high points, pocket guns that were riding around in pockets with change keys and lord only knows what. Everything in the case was trashed and they wanted almost new prices for everything. Was even a really old 1911 in the case.... that some genius took a wirewheel to and took off all the blueing to make it shiny.

Three pawn shops where I live, deals on guns are few and far between. At one of the"chain" shops I have (not recently) bought a Winchester defender 12GA, for 175.00,and picked up a ruger 10-22 for 100.00. Most of the time all is overpriced in a crazy way and no leeway on price.the other shop(locally owned) has had very little and exorbitant prices but is great for electronics and coins.i went there recently and was surprised to see posted that ammo would be accepted in pawn! I guess that ammo will be the new gold and silver if times get really hard!

We have two pawnshops here in town.

One gets some decent guns, and prices them on the high end of fair prices-they will deal on prices however. I bought my fairly nice model 28 from them, and paid $500.

The other is more into selling new cheap guns(Taurus, Bersa, etc), but still gets some decent used ones. Unfortunately, their used prices run from high to insane. Back before Christmas, I looked at an S&W 1902 model that was tagged at $850. I was verbally offered it for $350, but passed at the time until I learned more about it. A week later, I went back to try and make the deal, and they wouldn't budge off the $850 price.

To give another gauge on prices, that same shop also had a nice but well-used Blackhawk in 44 Magnum that was tagged at $895. As best as I can tell, that's about $150 over the new retail price of the gun.

Shhhhhhhhhhh.

Been buying from a few for 40 years. Yes, 5-6 weeks after Xmas is a great time-- oh- I mean--- (well, not that you didn't know already) to buy after everyone gets there xmas credit card bills and can't make taxes, hunting season is over, this year it is the 3000 dollar ARs that panic people bought.

I am loyal to one or two p awn shopsand they reciprocate, they know my tastes and habit and I will get the "let me show you what "you need" here in the back I have been holding for you; as I walk in for my weekly or so visit. I sometimes buy, sometimes pass depending on my cash flow and changing habits but I apprieciate the good treatment. People I run across, well many of them expect the deals or treatment I get but it boils down to respect and loyalty. I get good prices because I don't hagle for hours over 5 bucks. I don't beat them over the head on condition or quaility, I just have a calm demenor and be honest with them when I pass and don't get too overly excited for that "got to have it" gun or knife-- or what ever it is.

I have watched people come in and just throw money at the counter with really no thought except peeling wheel to get out of there to get to a range and seen people haggle for an hour to get 20 bucks off or add a mag, or a scope...... I just get a smurk when I think if they were a regulay, they would have gotten it for a whole lot less anyway.... BUT......

Just an obsevation.

Last good deal. Winchester 1890 short--- almost black charcoal look due to going through a house fire. 150 bucks. Cleaned it up ( smoke damage only) turned out really nice. If I wanted to sell Im sure I could get 700 plus for it.

A little loyalty, a little respect, a little elbow grease, a little cash= happy dude.

When you find a pawn shop that has decent guns occasionally, visit it often, hang around and talk with them..build a friendship with them, most often someone there loves guns too and enjoys talking about them. I have found when you build a relationship, you get calls when they get something you might want, and deals. Around here most guns they get by sale not pawn, if they have only a day or two overhead they will take a "quick 25-50 profit"..at least I have found it works for me.

Picked up a very nice S&W model 60 off GunBroker and since it was a pawn shop less than 100 miles from the house, I went over to pick it up. While I was there I spotted this Marlin 512 Slugmaster:

Asked if he could do $200 for it (tagged at $275), and he said no problem. I have yet to find another one under $300. I've got a Nikon scope for it, just haven't mounted it yet. Going to be my long range zombie gun with Hornady SST sabots.

The only decent deal I ever got in a pawn shop was a 1936 registered magnum. It was all original but only about 90%. Got it for $225. Other than that I hardly ever find good deals in pawn shops.

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek there. I nearly fell over when I found that gun. Actually talked the shop owner down $25 on his asking price.
