Back in my early gunsmithing days, I did a lot of hand checkering on custom guns. As time went on, custom built rifles became less desirable compare to Polo and Alligator logoed guns. Some may say this belongs in the gunsmithing forum and not here, But I prefer a wider audience. I only collect now and I try to make my guns as close to new condition as possible. For more than a few past years I have been looking for hand checkering tools for sale. I have lost or misplaced mine over the years. I see expensive electric tools advertised in stock, but the few offers of hand tools are usually out of stock. At least the popular LPI tools are.. I don't like laser checkering or engraving, but the seems to be all that is available on all but high end guns. One checkering cutter for hand checkering tools advertised now can cost as much as a full line per inch set once cost if you can get them I take care of most of my needs with pattern files to re-run checkering and borders, but I would the real thing for replacement wood. I know that I am going into that nostalgic old man mode again, but I surely would like to find some inexpensive tools with a range of spacing widths. Anyone out there know of a source? Thanks in advance for any help.

Someone here may have a set for sale. Have you tried posting in the Wanted to Buy sub-forum in the Classifieds?

When I was looking last year what I found is the number of manufacturers is now limited.

The challenge with used items on ebay is most sellers are not users. Therefore they don't know what they're looking at and don't take photos showing the condition of the cutting teeth etc.

Also one has to be patient to find the tools or sets that have what you are looking for. I was only looking for single line cutters to renew existing factory checking. I ended up buying both a pull and a push Ullman from Midway. Cheap? No.

Yoiu'll probably do better since you're already familiar with the tools and different lines (no pun intended) from the different manufacturers.

Amazon has them, individual tools and sets.
mostly wood carving tools. Only checkering tool is single line for touch up. Price is prohibitive on my budget for one cutter. Thanks though.
