Cherry Jam

My late Aunt Mona owned a cherry farm in Perkin's Ridge, KY.

Dad would take us there quite often to stay overnight.

Cherry glazed pork chops, ham baked with cherries and pineapple, pineapple upside down cake with cherries, cherry cobbler, cherry pie, cherry muffins, cherry tarts, cherry preserves, cherry jam, etc, etc.

We would sleep upstairs in her old farmhouse which had a tin roof. We prayed for rain at night.

It was one of our favorite places on earth.

We bake pork tenderloins with cherry jam. Good stuff!

That time of year for home canning. I grow the tomatoes and my wife makes the salsa. Blueberry jam was earlier this season. Grape and Fig jam coming soon. All grown at our place.IMG_6511.jpegIMG_1158.jpegIMG_1159.jpegIMG_1913.jpeg

I absolutely LOVE fresh cherries! I bought some at $3.99 a pound about 2 months ago at Ingles and they were okay. When those ran out, I wanted to buy them again but they were $6.99 a pound….too expensive. Last week, I saw they were on sale at Harris Teeter for $3.99 so I made the drive just for some. When I saw them, they were spectacular! They were HUGE, with nice color, and tasted superb! I bought 4.5 pounds. I don't think that I have ever had cherries that good before. I wish I had taken pictures of them. They also had some of the yellow/red colored variety (don't remember what they were called) that were just as large and looked just as good, but they were $7.99 per pound, so I passed.
