Looking for opinions, experiences from owners of the Chevy Colorado.I have a chance to buy a 2007 LT 5 cylinder 4 door with 21,000 miles at a reasonable price.

I have a 2005, 5 cyl, manual, 2dr, very happy with it, it's getting 25 mpg. The only thing missing is a ouside lock on the Pass. Dr., nothing is perfect I suppose.

2007 4-cylinder (2.9L) standard cab.

The only thing it's ever been back to the dealer for was a cracked center brake light (made the cab leak).

This was replaced under warranty at no cost.

I'm quite happy with it.

I have been curious as to the in-line 5 cylinder performance. The inline motors have been pretty good performers in the past. I'm a Chevy guy, and have always been impressed by the Ford 300 in-line 6. While the Chevy 250 had been a good little performer in it's time. Hopefully the in-line will prove to be a viable power-plant.

I had the Canyon, the GMC version of the Colorado with the inline five, four door. I loved that truck. It had good zip and often pulled a 16' trailer loaded with construction debris and a 20' pontoon boat in and out of the lake with ease.

I bought one last year, a 2008 with 11K miles. Now over 50K, no problems. Has the same 5 cylinder engine, works just as well as the little V-6 engines.

Mine has beem a good buy.

I intend to run it about 400 K miles, looks like it will be ok fot that so far.

5 cyl engines have been around a while now.
I cant bring myself to invest faith in them as they are forced to run lopsided (2 hits on one rotation 3 on the next) which has to marry it to a narrower operating range.

That was my concern with the odd number cylinders. The other scary design is Chevrolet cylinder shut-down system to save mpg for highway. Some reason shutting cylinders down scares the heck out of me, and wonder how this contributes to carbon build up as well, messing up the harmonics of the block when the pistol switch from fire to unfire and back.

You could buy a Silverado for almost the same money and almost the same gas mileage. You could do alot more hauling and towing...the resale on the Colorado sucks compared to the Rado...

It depends on how you plan to use it. A farmer I know thinks that it's not cut out to be even a light-duty farm truck. (His other pickup is an F-250.) The Colorado has not held up near as well as the S-10s he had owned previously.

It's probably all right if you are going to use it like a car, which 98 percent of the population will do, but I would not recommend it for hard use.

The engine is the same 6 they used in the Trailblazer with 1 or 2 cyls. cut off. Virtually all the cyl heads on the '04 thru '06 had to be replaced do to a recall. Heads made in China. Milage is not great. I've got an '08 standard cab 4cyl.. This is the last year of production for the Colorado. I'm going to try to sell mine.
