By the way...

...I'd like to mention here that this cat was my first. I have told that story in here at least a couple of times. But he is the cat that turned me around and turned me into a cat lover. He was most affectionate and seemed to be able to sense when I was sick or stressed and stayed close to me in those times. And try to imagine my surprise and delight to discover that he loved the smell of Hoppe's #9. He loved to "observe" when I was cleaning my guns after a trip to the range.

I never though I would ever have another cat that I could feel that close to. But Duke, aka brisket neck, big guy and man cat, pictured in the op and I have bonded at least as closely as Frito and I did and possibly more so.

Now I must amend a saying I have, instead of saying Frito was the best relationship I ever had with an animal of any kind, I must now say that Frito and Duke are both the best. I would really hate to have to choose between them. Maybe Frito would be first because he changed me from a cat hater to a cat lover but still, it'd be very close.

I adopted a neutered male from the animal rescue league 10 yrs ago. He is mostly yellow with with white chin and neck. He is intelligent and amazingly loving. He intentionally divides his snuggle time evenly for my wife and I. First cat I ever had who genuinely loves his people. When I adopted him from the shelter, he was glad to go in the carrier. He was so happy and appreciative for being in a home he would get in my lap and lick my bare arms until he wore them out. He got over that eventually.

He is the only cat I've ever been around who can look me straight in the eyes and hold the gaze.

Funny how cats all have their own unique personalities. We've had a dozen over the last 40 years and no two were exactly the same in how they interacted with we lowly humans who served as their staff.

We adopted a cat one time from someone we worked with because they said it kept biting their children. I think the kids abused that cat because it was a real psycho when we got it. Boots eventually calmed down but never was safe around children. And she was my cat, exclusively. If she was on my lap I could move her off it without incident but if she curled up on my wife's lap and she tried to move her Boots would bite, and hard. It was funny how if that cat was asleep on my wife's lap and she wanted to get up she'd call for me to "come get your cat".

My mother was never fond of cats and every time she came to visit our cat Spyder would jump up on her lap the minute she sat down. I swear he just did it to be ornery.
