Good morning. It is with a heavy heart that I am letting everyone know that my father, Chip "Iggy" Harding, passed away on Monday 21 July 2025 near his home in Cheyenne, WY. I don't know if anyone here knew, but he suffered with a blood disorder over the past 4 years. He was diagnosed with myleodisplastic syndrome in 2013, but it didn't hit him hard until about 2021. He had to receive routine blood transfusions to keep his energy levels up, initially starting with a couple pints once a month, then a couple of pints every three weeks, to 2-3 pints every two weeks before he called it quits and chose to go out on his own terms. Those "terms" were that he chose to stop the transfusions and just go to sleep. It took him a few weeks, but that's exactly what happened.

Chip lived a well-lived life. In his 81 years he was a cattle ranch kid, a college student at the University of Wyoming who majored in paleontology, a campus cop, deputy sheriff, Wyoming Highway Patrol Officer, and closed his working career finishing up working and managing one of our family ranches in Eastern Wyoming. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda, and myself, his only child.

I want to let you know that he valued each and every one of you and spoke of this forum often, especially when I started buying handguns. Please know that he enjoyed every story, conversation, and debate about all things S&W. Thank you for your friendship to him.

Sincerely,

Cody Harding

Cody I can not give this a like. What I can say is you and your family have my deepest condolences.
Chip (Iggy) was a very special man.He pm me several times answering questions and pointing me in right direction.

Cody, In other words Chip had bone marrow cancer. If he survived four years he was extremely lucky. I lost my wife to this six years ago, only a month after being diagnosed. Her immune system was so compromised that she succumbed to septic shock.

I am sorry to hear this, he will be missed. Always enjoyable to read his posts.
Thanks for letting us know Cody, my condolences. May he rest in pease. 😢

Cody, your father was a well known, respected, and beloved member here of long standing.

When earlier this summer we learned of his illness, and then his eventual passing, many of us posted our thoughts about him in this thread.
