"Sound of Music?" Pah! Who can forget him hamming it up and acting Shatner off the screen in "The Undiscovered Country" as General Chang. He was also a brilliant "man with a past" employing a devious Jodie Foster to cover his tracks in "Inside Man". His role in "The Battle of Britain" was notable, too.
I didn't realize until I looked at Wiki that he did a bunch of voice acting for animated films. I shouldn't have been surprised given his wonderful tones.

I must admit that I did not know he was Canadian until I read the obituaries today.
Great actor. But frankly, the “Sound of Music” doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe just because of my historical interest, I remember him best and foremost for playing the Duke of Wellington opposite Napoleon played by Rod Steiger (another great actor) in “Waterloo”, 1970.

featured it a year ago or so.

the last line or nearly so. What a classic ending.

Apparently, it didn't do anything for him, either. According to multiple reports that I read after his death, he hated the movie and never watched it until some few years before his death, when he got stuck viewing it at an acquaintance's children's Easter party. He allegedly only came to appreciate the movie then . . .
RIP. Although great in The Sound of Music also I thought he made a fine villain.
