I chronographed a couple of 357 factory loads and figured somebody here may be interested in the results. I shot some Speer 125 Gold Dots and Federal 158 JHPs in my 4" 627 Pro Series. I'm not a gun expert nor a scientist so take this info for what it's worth. I shot 5 rounds of each over the chrono in the August heat here in Arizona. They were transported to the shooting area in an air conditioned vehicle, of course.
The Speer 125s shot a low of 1493 FPS and a high of 1551, with an average of 1518. The Federal 158s shot a low of 1268 FPS and a high of 1319, with an average of 1289. The report of the 125s was pretty impressive. I was impressed also with the velocity of those 125s, as they were about 50 to 100 FPS faster than the 125 grain 357 Sig rounds we're issued for work. That 357 Sig round, at about 1450 FPS, is an extremely impressive stopper.
I also ran some 10MM 175 Grain Silvertips over the chronograph. These were shot in a Glock 20C. They had a low of 1153 FPS and a high of 1177, with an average of 1164 FPS.
There you go. Hope someone can use this information.
