More chronograph test results from couple of weeks back... this time a “38-44” load using Handloader Oct 2016 edition (see publication for details) (for my 357 Magnum only).

Firearm: Ruger 4 5/8 inch Blackhawk
Chronograph: LabRadar (10 shots)
Cases: R&P 38 Spl brass cases (primers marked red)
Bullet: Lyman 358156GC SWC 160 gr
Primer: CCI-500
OAL: 1.525” (seated long in second crimp groove)
Powder: Alliant Unique
Powder weight: 6.0 grs
Avg: 1,023 FPS
Hi: 1,072 FPS
Lo: 983 FPS
ES: 90
SD: 49

Observations: A true 38-44 load for heavy frame 357 Magnums, S&W Heavy Duty or Outdoorsman revolvers. Even though ES and SD were above my expectations, this load shot remarkably accurately at 50 ft with five rounds at one inch! Kept within 3 inch bull at 25 yds with ease. All bench rested, for me this is real good.

I would think this load would approach 1,100 FPS in 6.5” revolver.

Handloader magazine is super, I highly recommend you purchase a back edition of the Oct 2016 issue if you like 38 Spl+P and 38-44 as much as I do. Great loads and easy on my aging hands.

Best to all
