It's that time of the year again at the ol' homestead. Didn't have the best apple crop this year, but when one of my granddaughters heard I was planning on pressing a little cider this weekend, she and her girlfriend came up to help out. We only pressed seven gallons today. Nothing compared to last year's 32 gallons, but we'll take what we can get. Sent four gallons home with the girls. I think they had a good time.
I still have some apples on the trees, so we might do a little more cider. Of course, we also dry apples, make apple pies, etc., but cider pressing has been a family tradition now for over thirty years. This year's cider was a combination of Fuji, Cortland, Honey Gold, and Pixie Crunch. Tastes pretty good, too.
