It's that time of the year again at the ol' homestead. Didn't have the best apple crop this year, but when one of my granddaughters heard I was planning on pressing a little cider this weekend, she and her girlfriend came up to help out. We only pressed seven gallons today. Nothing compared to last year's 32 gallons, but we'll take what we can get. Sent four gallons home with the girls. I think they had a good time.:)

I still have some apples on the trees, so we might do a little more cider. Of course, we also dry apples, make apple pies, etc., but cider pressing has been a family tradition now for over thirty years. This year's cider was a combination of Fuji, Cortland, Honey Gold, and Pixie Crunch. Tastes pretty good, too.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have never tasted apple cider. I'd love to try some sometime but nobody around here seems to be into it. BTW my favorite apple is the Fuji and #2 would be the Granny Smith.

The girls make that process look like a lot of fun!

Folks drink a lot of cider in these parts. Good stuff.

Chip, I always enjoy your apple pressing threads partly because it reminds me of one of my mom's favorite radio songs when she was a girl..Vera Lynn's version of "I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time".

Apple cider

Pressing cider was a tradition at our home, but it was done on a much larger scale, on a wine press about twice the size of the one shown. We had a large wine press, and apple-shredder, manufactured in Logan, Ohio.
Hard cider, will sneak up on a person and cause a lopsided grin. Hard cider is also used to make applejack brandy, another truly delightful beverage.

I always enjoy your cider posts. Not much better than fresh cider. Great kiddos too.

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Remember how she said that we would meet again some sunny day?

Very interesting. I enjoy cider but rarely buy it for some reason. I have several apple trees but hardly ever get apples due to the *^&% squirrels eating them and droughts that seem to hit each fall and stress my trees so they do not produce much.
Enjoy your efforts
