I wasn't sure if this was the correct section for this, but it seemed closest…if not, mods please move.

So what is the best way to clean stainless moon clips? Prior to switching to TK clips, all my clips were blued carbon steel and didn't show powder residue like the TK's do. I've run them through three or four sessions without cleaning and the residue was getting pretty thick. This time around, I soaked them in water and dawn dish soap overnight, then had to scrub them individually with a toothbrush…a little time consuming. Next time I'll probably try soaking them in some Hoppe's #9, but it seems like I might go through a lot of Hoppe's that way.

So what do you guys use to clean your moon clips? Or do you just ignore the powder residue?

Wipe them off with a cloth. Since they're stainless, carbon comes off easily.

I'll do that right after shooting next time. I got lazy and had a multiple session buildup to try and break loose.

You can filter the Hoppes through a coffee filter and reuse it .

Good point. If I have to resort to using Hoppe's, I'll do that.

I seldom use clips, much preferring Auto Rim brass over ACP. Any residue buildup on clips is slight at best. I have wiped them with a soft cloth using no solvent or other liquid.

It would take a great amount of use for any buildup to affect the function of the clips.

Nothing to be concerned about. If it's the looks that bother you, like not having bright shiny brass to reload, then either throw them in the vib case cleaned as already mentioned or thumb a light coating of most any oil on their surface and then swipe them against a fine wire wheel.
The latter will clean them up to a nice brushed matte finish in a wink.
Just be careful when handling like any small odd shaped parts against the wheel, they can 'get away' from you in a hurry.

Clean moons? Really....
Don't sweat the small stuff.
