I recently took my firing pin out and cleaned it and the channel as well for the first time on my S&W SD9VE and my Taurus 24/7 G2 .40. For the channels I used some 91% alcohol and q-tips to run down inside it with the dry end of the q-tip and then the wet end back and forth (since 91% alcohol evaporates real fast and dries quickly), but then I sprayed it out with some canned air to make sure it was all dried out real good inside. For the firing pin I used some MPro7 Gun Cleaner on my nylon brush and brushed over the entire firing pin and wiped it off with a microfiber rag good and sprayed it with some canned air as well to make sure it was dry. With this method it seemed like I got alot of black **** out of the channel and off the firing pin. So I was wanting to ask if this method is safe and good for cleaning these areas to keep them clean and dry like they are supposed to be??

Cleaning the firing pin channel

Sounds to me like you did an excellent job. I like the alcohol for getting rid of gunk, and I just use an air hose in the whole area. Air compressor's are fairly inexpensive and you will find them handy for around the house and car, not just for gun work.
