If this has been covered, please point me in the right direction.

I just picked up a 1954 5-screw K-38 6" from the original owner, and it looks great. The stock target Diamond grips have a beautiful grain...under the dirt! How do you clean wood? The gun is 99% but the grips are 90% because they are dirty. You can tell he was a RH-shooter since the right grip is darker.

How do you clean 54 years of dirt, sweat, oil, etc off of grips?

Thanks....Nick

"Howard, Restore-A-Finish", is for restoring antique wood finishes. It is available at antique shops and at Lowe's. It is available in many wood colors and will not alter the original finish but refreshes dirty or worn finishes.

I have used their Dark Walnut on antique furniture and on S&W Walnut grips. I used a tooth brush with a tightly woven clothe over it.

Wipe it on and immediately wipe it off.

Sorry 4-screw, haven't been at the computer for awhile.

Murphy's Oil Soap worked for me, and I thought it would be the least "invasive". I did touch them up with a light coat of tung oil after cleaning to bring back a little luster.
