Hello,
Since the 642 has a clear finish over the stainless steel I was wondering what you use to clean your 642.

Any special precautions I should take?

Thanks in advance for taking time to reply.

You can clean the interior barrel, cylinder, and frame of the 642 like you would clean any other revolver. You should avoid harsh solvents and abrasives on the exterior as it is clearcoated. Many swear by CLP to clean and lube their 642s. Don't bother with the carbon rings on the cylinder face, they will only return. Wipe it dry and give it a coat of Renaissance Wax periodically. It will preserve the finish. Mine is a coupla years old....

I don't use anything special for cleaning my 642. I use BreakFree CLP for cleaning, Gun Butter for lube.

Plus 1 on what Joe says. My 642 is my EDC - usually in a Uncle Mike's pocket holster. I use Break Free on mine with good results. Here's mine next to my Model 60. The 642 has been converted for moon clips.

Best of luck,

Dave

CLP works great. Hoppes elite and a bronze phosphor brush on the cylinder front cleans like new.
