There are so many oils, lubes, greases, preservatives and wonder products around and everybody here will give you their favorites. I have my favorites as well, but from what I have seen over the last 40 years, as long as reasonable care is exercised and common sense is used, most tried & true products will work just fine. The poor performers do not stay in the market place for very long.
Since you asked, my personal favorite for the last 30 years has been RIG #2 Oil (Birchwood-Casey) which is great for cleaning, lubrication and rust prevention. I use this ONE product and I do not have to be concerned about cleaning all the solvent off before applying the oil and rust preventative, because it's all in the same bottle! It will not react negatively with wood, plastic, annualized metal, etc. I have had nothing but EXCELLENT results with this product and continue to use it over all the others, 98% of the time.
The other product I like is Remoil because it is clear and will not stain or discolor Ivory, Stag, etc. Very similar to RIG #2, it is a very light viscosity and evaporates in short order leaving behind lubrication (Teflon) and rust preventative. Both these products are "just what the doctor ordered" for CCW because when you carry a gun everyday you do want it lubricated and protected, but don't want oil all over your clothing. These 2 products do exactly that.
I have a closet FULL of dozens of different firearm chemicals, and I usually wind up using them on lawn equipment, sliding doors, hinges or what ever just to use them up. Not saying they won't work on your guns, just saying I like the Rig & Remoil the best.
