I picked up a 586-1 recently and it appears to have been refinished as some have stated here. it obviously isn't blue like most other 586's. After I took the rubber grips off there was some grips lines. and a small spot of rust or two as you can see in the pictures. I would like to keep this one and carry it and have lower profile grips. I hesitate to use fritz as it is abrasive and I don't really want it shiny or mismatched from the rest of the gun. I don't know if it is brushed nickle or Electrolux. I would like to get rid of the rust spots and have the visiblessing finish cohesive with the rest for shorter grips.
What would be the suggestions for cleaner to remove the rust and or to blend the finish?

Try some Rennaissance Wax. I understand museums use it in the bladed weapons (swords) displays. From what I gather it cleans without abrasives and leaves a protective film on the metal that helps it resist the elements. Is it any good? I really don't know as I have never tried it before.
