Been quite sometime since I posted but I recently purchased 2 FBI blocks from Clear Ballistics. Here are a couple of results. All shots were thru a clothing barrier of a t shirt, sweatshirt and a single layer of denim,
38/357 fired from a Ruger sp101 2.25in magnum

Winchester 110+p+ 10.75 in .58 diameter
Buffalo Bore 110+p Lead free 15.5 in and .58 diameter
Remington 158LHP+p 14.5 in and .49 diameter
357mag Rem Golden Saber 16in and .56 diameter

9mm from Glock 26
Buffalo Bore 95gr+p+ lead free 13in and.625 diameter

357sig from a Glock 32
CorBon 125 17in and .60 diameter (exited 16in block and struck a water bottle but did not enter..left a dent only)
Winchester 125Ranger T 2 rounds exited block and a 1 gallon jug behind the block never to be found. One round exited block and completely penetrated a 1 gallon water jug and was found on ground behind bottle. The expanded round measure .73 across the widest point. I would call that 21in penetration.

Thank you for this post. From details provided would appear that any of the rounds sampled would be very effective for SD/HD. Now for shooting through refrigerators, cars, auto windshield glass, etc., well, I rarely ever do that sort of thing except in a junk yard.

Very interesting...........

Saw where one gel can be re-used, which helps out in the cost factor.
A step up from water bottles full of cut up newspaper and water
or wet packs.

The clear see through gel is pretty slick vs the tan colored kind.
I would go there but too many people around and no areas close by to set up.

Enjoy.

Nice work. Have you considered a video similar to what tnoutdoors does on youtube? He uses both clear and simtest.

Most interesting to me is how well the Buffalo 38+P did versus the other loads. out of curiosity how was the recoil on that versus the Win +P+ and the 357? If the +P has that much better recoil versus +P+ or 357 that's a pretty distinct advantage given the similar results.

recoil

The Win +p+ 38 does 1085 avg out of the Ruger snub. Buffalo Bore specs the Barnes +p at 1110 from a snub so effectively the same and that is how they felt. The 357 GS round barked louder and had a little more recoil..it was just a little sharper. I should say I use the Pachmayr grip on the sp so it could be a little more noticeable with the small stock grip. One thing to consider in my opinion is that in looking at the Barnes 38 it appears that at some point in its expansion the round had to be .70 or greater before the petals folded back.

Seems to support the contention that in a 2"-3" barrel the difference between 38 +P and 357 is fairly small.

Good point about expansion.
