Clements Custom Guns 44 Special

The gun had these Herretts on it when I got it. I've had the Spegel's put away for a special gun for a while.

I've had two .44 Special conversions, a 27-2 converted by Jim Stroh of Alpha Precision and a pre 27 by Hamilton Bowen both 5" barrels. Also picked up a 28-2 6"converted by an unknown 'smith.

Here's mine I've shown before. Dave did the .44 Special conversion on a pre- 27 I bought that had been hacked at some time previous to my owning it.
I believe about a year after I got mine back, Dave announced he was no longer working on Smiths.
Too bad to lose another fine gunsmith but we all face retirement at some point.
I could sure live with this one. Love that bead sight. I once found a classic Berns Martin holster for a 3 1/2" N frame but sold it because I'm left handed. That would be perfect for this gun with that sight. I really need a bead like that on my 6 1/2" 24-3's patridge sight.

357/44 Bain and Davis

Anyone remember the above conversion? Maybe 25 years ago I was wandering around at a local gun show. A guy had a Model 28 cylinder bored to 357 B&D along with dies and a list of loads for the conversion. I played with it for a while and somehow connected with an engineer here in Iowa who was interested. We met at our range and he bought it. I believe he posted on this forum but haven't heard from him in a long time.

Hope he didn't blow anything up!

I remember it well. Never tried it even in my wildcatting days. .44 mag case necked down to .357. Had a reputation for backing out and binding during recoil, but turned in some impressive velocities from a 6" barrel.

Looking back, I think it could have lived up to its potential in a Contender Super 14 barrel.

Sure comes into view quick!
I also have a 24-3 and may somewhere down the road, have a gold bead added.
