I just had CMC surgery on my left hand last week and plan on the right hand later this winter. For now the handguns will reside in the safe but after recovery I’m wondering how much recoil can be tolerated. Have any of you had the surgery And can comment on your recoil tolerance?

There are 4 or 5 different surgeries for CMC., I had thumb replacement surgery in 2016.
Mine went great, I was driving the next day but I'm known for my fast healing and high pain tolerance.
A lot depends on what surgery they do, how well you heal, your pain tolerance, how long you waited before having anything done.

I had both thumbs done twenty three years ago. Both were done the bone fusion process. Results have been wonderful! Before surgery I could not shoot a .380 pistol. I can and do shoot all calibers including 500 S&W. I was fifty five when I had the surgery. You do loose some mobility, as the thumb does not flex the same. Hard to shuffle cards. John

I would stay with a .22 for a while and of course stay off the texting on the phone.

10 years from now the most profitable and frequent surgery will be some sort of thumb replacement due to texting on a phone!

That’s encouraging. The Tight Rope procedure was used on mime. It is a relatively new procedure that is supposed to be durable and quick recovery. Next time I see the doc I’ll ask him for his opinion.
