Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery(1-20-25 update post #18)

That miniature chiller/ice machine, looking back, may have been the reason for my 2nd rotator cuff recovery was shorter. That simple plastic ice bucket, a cheap pump, some hose, and the part that straps on the shoulder. One of those things you look at and ask Self, why didn't I invent this? So, I would bet by now they have even cooler things to help you even more. Good luck. Ya know, you will need pain meds, stronger at first, but Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminafen) is easier to break free of and I never noticed some of the constipation, itchiness, etc. like Oxycodone. If you have a choice, you might consider that route. Ask the doc, as I'm not a pharmacist but you will need something. Good luck. Keep us informed when you get the chance.

So something I've wondered (I'm still all OEM, so no personal experience): when getting the knee replaced, they have you up and exercising as quickly as possible. But the shoulder is immobilized for 6 weeks?

Knees can now be done with minimal invasiveness. Same with hips, up the day of the operation. My shoulder replacement scars are the letter T. One leg is six inches and the other is four inches. A much more invasive procedure that requires time to heal before it should be moved.

At least that is the way it was 16 years ago.

Speaking as a guy with no shoulder surgery experience, but with three knee surgeries under my belt, and contemplating a fourth, I am impressed with what some folks consider "minimally invasive.":D

Scout, re oxy and constipation, at the risk of grossing everyone out, when laxative pills don't work, stick an enema where the sun don't shine. You can buy 'em off Amazon or in your local pharmacy. They work. Quickly. (That "quickly" is a word to the wise.)

Other than constipation, I like oxy. Kills the pain. Does zero for my mood. Does kill, in my case, any desire for alcohol. No problems quitting, in my case, when the pain recedes. Just be sure to stay inside your doc's guidelines for dosage.

Best wishes for a quick recovery.
