If you're interested in obtaining a CMP 1911 in 2018, follow the links below for more information.;)

"While the National Defense Authorization Act granted transfer of a maximum of 10,000 1911s per year to the CMP, the Secretary of the Army allowed only 8,000 1911s to be transferred to the CMP for sale and distribution this fiscal year. Some of those are anticipated to be unusual and worthy of being auctioned. The remaining number will be sold based on a computerized Random Number Generator.

The CMP does not know what next year’s allotment might be.

The procedures for purchasing 1911 type pistols from CMP 1911

*Every applicant will be treated as a new customer to CMP.*

Previous purchases or relationships with CMP create no advantage or disadvantage to the customer.

CMP 1911 is an FFL governed operation and is a separate entity from CMP and has its own record keeping operation with no ties to the existing CMP records.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL, LEAVE MESSAGES OR EMAIL THE CMP 1911 CUSTOMER SERVICE/SALES DEPARTMENT (which will be functional 4 June 2018) NOR THE CMP CUSTOMER SERVICE/SALES DEPARTMENT.

They have no further information at this time. However, all ordering information will be included in the 1911 packet posted 4 June 2018. The information contained in the packet should answer ALL QUESTIONS regarding the ordering process.

***ORDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BEFORE 4 SEPTEMBER 2018. ORDERS RECEIVED BEFORE THAT DATE WILL BE DESTROYED.***

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support."

I have a question here? Just where do the profits go and what are they used for when the CMP resells these guns? It appears they will make untold millions on just the sale of these 45 autos? I personally think the published asking prices are outrageous for something we as citizens already initially paid for with tax dollars! Does the U S Government have or use any oversight in these transactions?
Perhaps the fact that I have a long memory is the issue. I can remember circa 1960 when these were available thru the DCM for the sum of $17 as advertised in the American Rifleman! No you're not misreading it - that( $17.00) was the price!

I’m waiting for the announcement to mail in my application.

The top grades are $1050, which is many hundreds less than market price in my area.

CMP uses the proceeds to fund their operation. If they sold these for $20 each most would go to flippers and their wives, cousins, girlfriends, kids, and dogs, then show up at the next gun show for more than CMP is asking.

I’d rather have CMP get the dough.

These threads make me happy, though. Since I am apparently the only person sending in an application I should get a nice one.

Let them melt them down.

I got my USGI clone from auto ordnance 1911a1 US Army for $389 in 2005. The new SA USGI was $424. That’s two new clones for one over priced one. Our parents taxes paid once for these now your ripping us off again. It’s the American way.

With the adjustment in inflation and to add in collectibility you also have to consider the expense of getting many of these WWII weapons back and in operating condition. Here is an interesting short video of the recent Garands that we’re received back mpbby the CMP.

I fail to see why one must be a member of a shooting club to purchase one of these. None of them are target guns. Purchasing should be open to any U.S. citizen who is on active duty with our military or who is a veteran.

Also, while I understand that pricing is determined by the market, the prices are outrageous. A little bargaining at your local gun show may yield better results with some ability to see exactly what you are getting.

When I was on active duty with the Army, one of my NCOs had purchased a 1911 from the DCM (I think it was around $25 at the time) and it turned out to be an original Springfield Armory specimen in very good condition. I offered to buy it for double the money, but he said "No thanks!" (surprise, surprise).

At any rate, I have pretty much all of the G.I. .45 handguns I want, and am I ever glad I obtained them when the prices were not so patently nasty...

I took this photo for my 2003 Gun Digest article on 20th Century U.S. .45 caliber handguns. I'm proud that it won the John Amber literary award for that year; it might be a good read for anyone who has that issue and wants to sort out all the varieties.

Now that’s just a ridiculous statement, unless your anti-gun and then it’s understandable.

The $1050 guns are still mixmasters, with pitting, that have been arsenaled a few times. The nice and all original guns will be auctioned off even through they stated that wouldn’t happen.

Maybe. I promise to post pictures. CMP hasn’t let me down yet.

At least that was in their last email they sent out that stated the update prices and grade. The best ones that were being offered “for sale” would be in that stated condition. Higher grade would be auctioned off.

CMP has priced the 1911 type pistols at fair market value in accordance with CMP's enabling legislation.

Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition.

Auction Grade (Sales will to be determined by auctioning the pistol). The condition of the auction pistol will be described when posted for auction. Note: If you have already purchased a 1911 from CMP you will not be allowed to purchase an auction 1911. If you purchase an auction 1911, your name will be pulled from the sequenced list. No repeat purchasers are allowed until all orders received have been filled.

The shipping cost is included in the price.

Well, you can bet I’ll be sending in my paperwork too! I believe the application kits will be available for download starting on Monday, June 4, and the application period will be open for 90 days thereafter. I already explained in another thread why I have no problem with the price. I sure agree that it’s too much for a shooter/self defense pistol, so you guys that are looking for one of those should just stay away, ya hear?

I’m not interested in one of them. I have no attachment to their history because I wasn’t there.

I agree with you. What they should do is give them away for free to vets from the era. My grandfather carried one in Korea before barely making it out alive. I’m sure he would have enjoyed one before he passed a few years back. They paid for them, in more ways than one.

Back in the 1980s when I was armorer for a Headquarters Battery we had 5, consecutive serial numbered, Remington Rand 1911s. When I learned they were being "upgraded" to Berettas I tried every legal means I could think of to obtain those pistols. I even asked the Battery Commander if I could loose the pistols, pay the fine and the Article 15.

Clones

Do you really not understand that these are not "clones" but the real deal?

Much like a DCM M1, there's something to be said for getting a historic martial firearm about as close to right from the armory as you can get.

Granted they have been stepped on by being arsenal refurbished and mixmastered but it's going to be honest rebuilds.
