CMP 30-06 Greek Brass

I have some of the Greek 30-06 ammo from the CMP. I have not fired it yet but plan on shooting some soon. An acquaintance told me that it was not a good idea to reload this brass. He said the primer pockets are too deep for American large rifle primers and that you will get a lot of light primer hits and misfires. I have never heard this before. Has anyone here reloaded any of this brass? Did you have any problems? Thanks, Waldo

I,ve loaded two box,s headstamped HXP-63 useing CCI primers. Have only fired one box of twenty with no misfire's out of a Remington 03-A3.

I have loaded 500-600 of the HXP cases, the only problem I have is that a lot of them show signs of bulging forward of the rim upon their first firing so I end up tossing about 1/3 of them without ever reloading.

I've also loaded quite a few HXP 30-06 cases using CCI LR, Winchester LR and CCI #34 primers and all went bang the first time.

It is the same depth as GI Lake City.If he reamed/cut the crimp out since most is crimped he may have cut the pocket too deep.

Probably something your friend read on the Internet . . . LOL!

Personally, I have 500 fired cases that say otherwise. No problem with US-made primers.

I not only have loaded the Greek cases in 30-06 but have converted about 100+ to 8x57mm and used them. I have had no problems. I uniformed them just like I do all my brass and they have performed just as well for me as the R-P, Federal or Winchester brass that I normally use. As someone stated, you do have to be careful about how much reaming you do to remove the primer crimp; but you have the same problem with U.S. brass. I have not found the Greek cases to have a deeper primer pocket than LC or other American brass. My experience anyway. James
