CNN Reporter at NRA Convention

Wow, I'm also shocked that this came out of CNN...! This just goes to show you what happens when an intelligent and open minded individual is placed in position to report the news. It is what journalism should be. My bet is that this story will be buried, and will never see time on the actual network. I'd be curious if anyone sees the piece on the network...

As for the report, it is really a thoughtful and well laid out piece. Really, couldn't have asked for a more thought provoking piece for people that are against gun ownership. The reporter did a nice job of summarizing the some of the main points of gun ownership and need for our 2A.

I really liked how she told some of the perspectives of gun ownership through the stories of (legal...) immigrants to our country. I would hope this would be an eye opener for many of the "left of center" folks that view us gun owners as just a bunch of ignorant rednecks.

Seems to me that many Americans have enjoyed so much freedom, over so much time, that they just don't understand, and can't truly appreciate how important our 2A is. They truly don't understand the nature of government and what it means to be free.

I know a lot of anti-gun people, and know what it boils down to with them, ignorance and fear. Ignorance and fear are such powerful factors that those that advocate 'gun control' will always have willing accomplices that don't recognize that gun control is simply people control... As the Dos Equis guy says, "stay vigilant, my friend..."

One of the oldest principle of controlling people or affecting their decisions, we called it FUD, Primary motivators Fear, Uncertainy and Doubt.

My Fox News homepage had a really good, positive article on the NRA Convention and a feature to hear the President speak.

Lou Dobbs was the last one on cnn that was truthful. wolf blitzer is a pile of dirt.

I liked the article very much, and the lady honestly showed she had a lot of sense and was open to discussion. I think she understood the concept of good honest people being able to protect themselves and loved ones. But I think she might be looking for a job now, because she opened her mind, listened and understood what being free really means. She is welcome at my table anytime.

The press is not monolithic inside its ranks.

If it were, and 100 percent anti-gun, you'd find the road much harder than it is.

Too many on the gun owning side see an enemy in every reporter, editor, publication or electronic outlet.

And even when no fault can be found in a journalistic report,
many here are still not happy because the report wasn't a word-for-word detailing of what the NRA says.

Just look at a few of the responses here, that this CNN reporter will be stomped on by her bosses. That's nonsense.

Years ago, Ted Koppel threatened to shut off Chuck Schumer's microphone if he kept interrupting an NRA spokesperson. And Schumer kept his mouth shut finally. To me that was a shining moment in national television.

And not so long ago, Don Lemon on CNN allowed a pro-gun spokesman from a Roswell, GA. shooting range have his full say and not be badgered nor challenged.

When the study of all U.S. counties came out showing that crime was less in areas where gun ownership existed, the Chicago Tribune devoted a full op ed page to the Chicago professor's report.

When a new range opened in Sandy Springs, Ga., the local
TV people gave it full and supportive coverage as did the print people.

I can't cite every example here, but hundreds do exist of where the press has given pro-gun forces its full due.

The criticism is out there already.Probably wont see much more of this lady at CNN.

I haven't been able to find any criticism of her online. Can you furnish a link or links? I'm curious as to what people are saying about her.

With what is happening in the world today, and controls being put in place by governments etc., this article gives me a Canadian, a real eye opening perspective of why my American friends defend the 2nd amendment so fiercely.

Defend it my friends with all your heart, because you just never know what the future holds for our freedoms anymore.

Right. Comments on news articles on any website are usually made by trolls of various ages and different degrees of sanity and intellect. The proverbial guy living in his mom's basement.

I'm talking about professional critiques made by intelligent people, maybe people from other media sources, or even from the NRA, itself. Criticism that's actually published somewhere other than in the grade school level "comments" section.

People, Edward R. Murrow is long dead and to expect "balanced" coverage from any news organization is a dream. It doesn't matter if it's the "Commie" News Network or "Faux" News Network, they all learned one lesson quite a while back. They don't have to be the best network to have a following and increase revenue from advertising. They just have to put a spin on news to reflect people's biases and prejudices and they will have a rabid audience. As for CNN doing a fairly balanced piece, look around and find out what the fastest growing group of gun owners is since about the middle of last June.
