I just won these on an auction site and could use a little expert advice on wheather these are Diamond Targets or cokes. Hope these two pics are enough to reach a verdict. Thanks for any help.

They are advertised as Diamond Targets but I am hoping I might get lucky.

Charlie,
they look like cokes to me. Hope this helps,
Bill

the broad checkering area along with the curvature of the border at the top would lead me to think they were "cokes"
not my photo but ..target ~vs~ coke

cokes

hi
if you measure the dim. across the checking at the top of the grip.
a set of cokes measures 1.200 a set of diamond targets measures about
.900
I believe these are cokes.

As 'Kritter's' picture clearly shows, those are Cokes. Notice how the checkering is wider and goes further down toward the bottom. Also quite a bit wider at the top around the medallion.

Those are some very nice grips that you won!

As pretty much a newbie...this thread has
got me a little confused.
When I looked at the pictured I thought they
were diamond target checkered, but then
I saw the replies saying they were cokes!

I had not heard the coke description applied to
S&W grips prior to this.

I picked up a pair of K grips just yesterday
that I would describe as K checkered target (not diamond), but now I'm not so sure.

Can anyone clarify this...maybe show a coke
along with a target?

While I was typing this reply up...
the clarification was posted,
thanks for providing that

I'm attaching a pic of the Target grips that
I got yesterday, being an old woodworker,
I thought the graining on them was fantastic,
and it follows their general shape.

Those are K frame target stocks, relieved for a speedloader, introduced somewhere in the early 1980's. Cokes are special N frame stocks (only N frame) supplied on the .44 Magnum and the Model 57 up to the mid-1960's.

Thanks, Your sure correct on the date,
they are stamped 2/5/1985

I recieved the grips in question today and was pleasently surprised to find out they were indeed a nice set of Cokes. I see the prices all over the board at the gunshows and auction sites usually from $300. to $500.. I was able to grab these for $230. which would be a little high for Diamond Targets, but a little low for Cokes.
