My experience with the oversized targets found on the early 44 and 41 Magnums is that the weak points are where the wood is the thinest; the ears/horns, at the bottom of the backstrap where the two stock halves come together and the trigger guard filler/flange such as the ones shown here. Generally, someone who is an expert stock maker like Keith Brown can repair these with new old wood where the damage is almost undetectable.
