Collecting Themes

Generally no theme, but I like to do pairs - one nickel, one blue.

E.g.:

The only place where I'm trying to "collect the set" is M frames.
Still looking for a Nickel target, and a 6" fixed sight.

I started with Victory's but then branched out to pre Victory's, then post war SV's, then post war S's. If this is a theme I guess it is one line revolvers. I did just buy my second 4 liner, hope it doesn't become a habit.

About 40 years ago started with nickel 4" N frames...then added nickel k-frames..then fell for the .44 Special...then .41 Mag.
Then went deep in collecting Model 66's...then police marked smiths...then came 3" K-frames..
Only sold or traded a few so have quite a large varied collection.
Favorites are 4" Nickel Model 27's and 3" RB Model 10's and 13's..have several examples of each.

collecting

I collect them in kind of a weird way. I love the model 19's with 2.5 inch barrels so I have a 19-2, 19-3, 19-4, 19-5, 19-7, and a 19-8. I still need to find a 19-6 here in CA. I also have model 57's in a 57 no dash, 57-1, 57-2, 57-3, 57-5, 57-6, Still need to find a 57-4.

are your 57's the same barrel size?

I'm amazed that I have gotten as many "Likes" on my throw-away comment in Post #2 as I have... I guess I touched a nerve for folks with their gun collecting or accumulating. Since posting those comments, it would appear that I should have also stated that the guns that stay around are the ones that I really like to shoot. I went through a stage of "real" collecting, but now if it gets added to the stable, it probably qualifies as a fun gun... the exception being if i accidentally start a set (Like my 3 K-Masterpiece set, or my I/J-frame snubbies) where the original gun seems to attract a crowd of its family members. Right now, I can only think of a couple of guns I want to experiment with and I really just want to get out and shoot what I have.

Us retired public servants can't really do Jay Leno style collecting of guns, but have accumulated some pretty good stuff by working p/t at a couple of busy LGS's. Loved when estates came in - and my first shop did ALOT of estates.
My theme is of the 'look - there's a squirrel' variety.
Doesn't have to be pristine and boxed - a good working gun with the normal wear seen is fine by me.

As for anything new with the hole in the side - they just make me yawn. If I was given one, I'd probably hand it off to a friend that wanted it.
Do enjoy seeing all the interesting stuff here.
