So, I've moved from milsurps back to Smith autos for my collection focus. I'm curious what the give thinks should be my next 3 targets of interest.
What I have so far...
3906
659
4006
5946
910
4013
908
3904
669
That's the order of acquisition for what I have, so far I've been buying what I see as I can afford it. Just curious what you think the must haves are to concentrate on.
Thanks.

39-2
3913/14 (although very similar to your 908)
Something beginning with “CS”
Something ending with “TSW” and without a rail.
Shield 380 EZ (not really...just listed it to see whether anybody reads this). :D

Hunting is sometimes as fun as having. The glaring "missing" S&W in my humble opinion is a Model 4506. It is a different, outstanding gun built like a tank and fun for novices and experts alike to shoot. This is what mine looked like - before the boating accident.

My 4013 is a tsw pre rail. I'd really like a frame decocker, but they're pricey!
A 52 would be sweet, but it would have to be a shooter grade. Otherwise it would be a safe queen.

I see no models with just two digits in their "name." What about 41, 52, 61, 39, 59 etc.?

Here's a handy chart that is guaranteed to send you into bankruptcy court. It did for me.

https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/guide-smith-wesson-semi-automatic-models/

It's a depiction of all the S&W 1st to 3rd Generation semi-autos and it's easy to use....when you get all the boxes checked off that you have one in the safe....then that part of your collection is complete.

Then you can move on to .22s; then the M&Ps; then the 1911s; then the …..poor house.

You've got a great head-start...if it were me, I'd look hard for a 39-2; a 5906; something in a .45 ala 4513 to carry; and a 6906 (another carry piece that shoots like a full-size gun).

I am loath to add another caliber to the safe so I have avoided .40...but my best friend was a CHIP...and those CHP TSWs are looking better and better.

Good luck in your collecting....

Thanks! Since I posted this thread I've found a 4516 locally that I'm trying to work a deal on.
Poor house, here I come...

I'm trying to keep my own personal S&W loves and dreams in check while I answer your question. When I see the models you've gotten, the most obvious hole is a 39-2. Why? Well let me make my case:

1) The 39-2 is an iconic, historic, significant and noteworthy pistol in American firearms lore. So if the subject is "my collecting theme" and where to take it next, well this is the flagship semiautomatic pistol in the entire history of the S&W mark. This model is as much/more a part of the American law enforcement movement to semiautomatic pistols from revolvers as any gun in existence. (Hand in hand with the 59, arguably a variant of the Model 39 design.) So that's my "why collect a 39-2" angle.

2) Shootability! I look down your list and see a slew of beauties and fun guns. Add a 39-2 and you have a heckuva good chance of adding THE BEST single action trigger of anything in your list. The 39-2, by popular opinion, tends to feel fantastic in most shooter's hands. And the single action trigger tends to be better than all 3rd Gens that were made and it's an easy guarantee that it'll outclass all 2nd Gens save the 745.

3) Curb appeal! Look at the old school wood stocks, smooth bluing and slick single stack profile. These pistols are totally attractive.

4) Availability AND value -- S&W made like 347,000 of these over 12-plus years. They aren't scarce and the only "expensive" ones are time-capsule dead mint, unfired examples. A 39-2 in great shape isn't expensive and a beat-up one is dirt cheap. The only way the 39-2 can drain your gun fund is because you may end up wanting more and more of 'em!

5) Others pointed it out -- your collection shows no 1st Gens! If this is going to be a Smith & Wesson collection and not just a stack of guns then it's silly to have zero 1st Gens. 1st Gens are how and why every model in your list exists.

Oh sure, there are other 1-2-3rd Gens that I love, but if were in charge of this operation, we wouldn't discuss a single other model until this list shows a 39 or 39-2 in the first slot.

Yep...that's what I'm on the prowl for...

You're missing representation in the 69xx series. These make a nice range and carry gun option.

The 6926 may be a good choice to fill your frame-mounted de-cocker choice if you can find one.

I like my 6946 as a carry option better than my 6904 and 6906.

I've accumulated twenty Gen3s in 9 and 40 but put the brakes on my buying this year. I can't find the time to work with each handgun so I'm considering becoming a seller rather than a buyer.

I've avoided 45s because there are so many promising options.

So many choices - so little safe space.:D

If you do not already own a copy, the Standard Catalog of S & W 4th edition is a must. That way no one has to guess about where your interests lie, you can find out yourself. :)

Well, I picked up a 59 today.
Its a place holder until I find a 39 or 39-2.

Look at a 4006 CHP version. They are plentiful right now at a decent price..
