collector or accumulator ??? fun question

I call myself a "gun owner" or a "shooter." I have a modest "collection" of S&W firearms which includes pistols, revolvers and one rifle. Of course, I also own a few Rugers, and a couple of Colts, Winchesters, and Remingtons, a Beretta, a Walther and even a Wards Triumph.

I don't have the knowledge or money to be considered either a collector or an accumulator.

Those guys drop by here when they need a good laugh!!!!

I got it.............

Collectors are the guys with the large jar of..... "Renaissance Wax"

Accumulators have the small jars.......................

Shooters have.............Hoppe's

Just funnin.....:D

I tried Hoppe's it didn't help enough to keep my guns from rusting after being out in the rain all weekend, Renaissance wax does.

Even though I have a small collection of guns, I'm definitely not a collector. For example, I bought a 5" 29 Classic to hunt with and didn't find out that apparently they're rare until after I got it. And I really don't care, I'm still going to shoot it, and carry it because it's a gun and that's what it was made for.

A collector is a sophisticated accumulator, and an accumulator is an unpretentious collector. One in the same.

Be proud! Yell it out right now, "I am a collector!" "I love Smith & Wessons!" "I collect Smith & Wessons!" "I want more Smith & Wessons!"

I feel better now. Thank you.

I made a deal with myself that when my S&W collection hit 100 I would stop buying and would only sell/upgrade as better examples came along.......so much for that deal!!!

I need to find a 12-step program.....or not! LOL!!

My advice to you.....BUY MORE GUNS!!!

Keep your powder dry boys

You guys are close.

When we first got into this hobby a few would be ill collect a few different ones, as we collect we become an accumulator, soon after we become hoarders. It's a matter of checking one more off our list of wants.

After having prostate cancer and surviving nothing matters anymore. Life is short so live it to the fullest. Enjoy the journey. I never seen s brinks armored car in a funeral yet. So spend your $$ here.

I'm with you BigBill. I have survived prostate cancer too (for now)
and had a few heart attacks. It gives one a different perspective
on what's important doesn't it? I remember Billy Graham saying
he had never seen a hearse pulling a u-haul trailer.

being a collector, accumlator, hoarder isn't mush different in any three of them. Like Charlie sheen says the difference between a dat and a paid date is about $1,500.

Don't forget the enthusiast category. Kind of like the upper class men. We mostly start as freshmen, learn a bit and get humbled a few times, get smarter and then eventually we become upper class men/grad students (the enthusiast). A rare few go on to work on their PHD, the real "collectors" in my opinion. The collectors are a resource we accumulators and enthusiasts constantly learn from but they are still the teachers. If you are a constant resource to others, consider yourself a "collector".. (-:}

Oh, "enthusiast." I LIKE that. That's what I'll call myself from now on. ;)

Which......... there was a division of labor.................back in the day!!!

:D

I'd say Hunter.......but then again I've seen many posts... by you,,,,, where the Mrs. is better with a gun!!!!

I am the hunter, gatherer. She is the harvester.

To quote her. "Ohhh! That's nice, I want that one."

I ain't bitchin' you understand. She finds some pretty nice ones for me too.

All I'll say about this is that one persons trash is another persons treasure!

Call me what you'd like, I'll continue to buy what I like, when I like, for as long as I can.

Now, having said that I'm getting married next year, so yes, I'm buying as much as I can now!

But I do consider myself lucky, as she has no problem with the firearms I have, and like.

I think I personally fall squarely in the accumulator category. My revolvers have mostly been picked up through serendipitous circumstance and not because I was actively searching for just this one thing.

As my group of guns has grown it's become more of a "collection" and I do sometimes add to it thinking it'd be great to have "blank". I didn't start out thinking I'd put together a set or anything and I don't focus on a particular time period, finish, caliber etc. Also, the fact is that most of mine are shooters with various amounts of honest wear. All pointing to accumulator vs collector I'd say.

I been very fussy about the condition, the cost.

Collector, buys to fill gaps in his or hers collection. Has a planned direction their going in.

Accumnulator, buys anything, thinks about it but has no plan of direction.

Hoarder, is close to a accumnulator but buys anything within reach wether it's wanted or not. If it's a gun or gun related they buy it. A hoarder is the first one who takes out the green. Buy, buy, buy.

Harvester, when the fresh veggies, fruits, blueberries ripen I'm a harvester. Blueberry pancakes,,,,,,,,
