Colonoscopy prep!

Okay, it’s no fun whatsoever, but if you are pending this potentially life saving procedure kindly read on.

Mine was yesterday; results were totally clean! Not even a polyp(s) this time. :)

Though that is the best part, the prep is now much better.

New (at least to me) is SUTAB prep. Consists of twelve (12) tablets the evening before and twelve (12) more the morning of the procedure. Now the tablets are rather large and must be taken in conjunction with exactly sixteen (16) ounces of water within 15-20 minutes it sure beats the liquid concoctions I have previously consumed. Plus, it should be noted you have to consume exactly sixteen (16) ounces of water twice at timed intervals after ingesting the pills. But it’s quite doable.

Follow your doctor’s instructions, obviously, and don’t wait if you are due for a colonoscopy. Mine was delayed a year by virus caused restrictions so I was quite happy to get it out of the way...and outta my mind.

The prep really is the worst part of the procedure, if you don't count being in the "recovery" room afterwards with everyone else "expelling vapors". Sounds like the famous campfire scene from Blazing Saddles. Get it done.
 
I told the nurse that grass doesn’t grow on a busy street. Lol

I guess now they put us a sleep during the inspection. Great.

Prep sure isn't fun need to keep light diet few days before. Had 15 polyps few years ago my recent only one polyp had quit whisky and high fat foods. Won't need another colonoscopy till 2025
 
I have had a bunch of them since I was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago. I had surgery to remove the cancer and then surgery later to reconnect the plumbing. I have been through a bunch of them before during and after. They don't get any better and the prep is terrible for sure. That said it beats the hell out of dying and it prevents you from getting cancer or finds it in time to cure you and it is well worth doing.
 
Mine is overdue, because of the virus mess. We will have our 2nd shot for the virus next week, then I will schedule it. I already have the paperwork. Then, depending on how the MBH is feeling, I gotta get the hernia repaired.

I will start the prep for the colon checkup by going to soft foods, then soup, and finishing up with clear liquid before I start the prep.

I received a call from my Doctor and they finally caught up with me. I go in on April 15th for mine. It has been five years since the last one. The worst part, as usual, will be the prep stuff the day before.

That nasty stuff you have to drink is the worst part, that and trying to find a vein for the IV. I discovered that drinking the stuff WITH A STRAW makes it easier and quicker without the gag reflux that often comes with trying to swallow the stuff. Try it - it really makes it almost doable.
 
Just FYI, they have several flavors of the prep mix today, just ask.
 
What is comparable to a pre-colonoscopy prep? I can only think of one thing. Do you remember those plastic rockets you had as a child that you put water into and them pumped in as much compressed air as possible before launching them? That is the pre-colonoscopy prep.
 
I have one scheduled in a few weeks.I had a upper scheduled next year so I told them to do both while I was out. I did ask him to do upper first because if he did it other way.It would leave a bad taste in my mouth.He gave a evil chuckle now I’m worried.
 
Vince Lombardi said that he would rather die than have a colonoscopy. Unfortunately, he got his wish.


No anesthesia, sedation, or anything else for me. I want to be awake and watch the screen, and ask any questions about what I see. It doesn't hurt. It just feels really weird.

In October 2019 I had what I jokingly called a cardiac colonoscopy. An incision was made in my groin, stainless steel conduit was inserted in my groin, snaked through my body, and into my heart where damaged tissue was removed that was causing an irregular heart beat. A local anesthetic at the groin incision, but nothing else. Wide awake. No anesthesia. I felt everything. If I could go through this, then a regular colonoscopy ain't nothing.
 
I just learned that a former college girl friend died three months ago - it was a horrible death from colon cancer - she was in hospice for quite a while, suffering from chemo treatments and died alone. I grieved when I learned of it - it's something I would not wish on anyone.

Do the colonoscopy thing. If it will prevent something similar from happening to you, it will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.

My wife and I just did this last week. Different doctors. Her prep was a half gallon, and mine was a gallon split half at 5pm and half a 3am.
Who cares.
2nd most deadly cancer, yet the most preventable.
BTW good results.

I appreciate your pre-prep logic, but you're still gonna pass things you just THOUGHT about eating. Good luck.
My last one, they gave me a powder to mix with Gatorade, it was a whole lot easier to get down than the stagnate pond water I used the first time. The "end" results were the same.

You know you have a true friend that volunteers to take you to and pick you up afterwards, knowing whats coming.
 
I failed the Colonguard poop test years ago and SWMBO TOLD me I was going in. The prep was not all that bad although you do get at a point of don't: laugh, sneeze, cough, etc because you can't clinch up enough to hold the flow back. Before they put me under I requested mood music and when they said they didn't have music available I asked for someone to hum or whistle Duelin' Banjos. When they brought me up from sleep I just asked if they saw my brain when rooting around? :)
 
I am 62 now, and didn't get my first colonoscopy until about 2 years ago. It came out all good (boy did it come out the day before!).

Where I made my mistake was after all that fasting and purging, I came home seriously craving a grilled cheese sandwich and some bean soup. The wife made me two nice and cheesy samit'ches, and I ate them both, with a can of "Bean & Bacon" soup. YUMMY it was,.............

Now for the bad news part; What I did was create a Big Ole Cheese Ball plug at the end of my completely clean colon. And I pressurized it with the bean soup!

Now ya'll take this information and write it down, so you don't forget. DON'T DO THAT! My Gawd! I was almost a week getting that cheese ball plug out'a the way! It was seriously pressurized by then, but yet firmly blocking the exit!

I'm better now, but I won't never forget the lesson. And I'm hoping to save someone else from all of that ......"discomfort". Trust me, eat the beans first, and then only eat about half of a cheese samich. Or better yet, No Cheese At'all! (until the system is properly back in order)
 
Yeah, yeah, yeah...

MY scheduled colonoscopy is coming up in less than 2-months. The last one was "clean" so I got a 5yr break, HOWEVER, the time before that I HAD SO MUCH FUN THAT I had a second colonoscopy in less-than-a-week...!

Being musically inclined, my mind went right to a John Phillip Sousa concert.
 
Having had a number of colonoscopies over the past few years, I always dreaded the prep the most. But the last one was a different story. No drinking a gallon of dilute slime that doesn't taste bad at first, but sure does towards the end. The prep was very simple this last time. I don't even remember anything bad to say about it.
