Anybody have that? Did Smith issue early stainless with color case hammer and trigger? Would love to see pics if anyone has some.

sorry for the crappy cell pic but my 6inch 629-4 came with case hardened trigger and hammer. Bought it used about 6 months ago for next to nothing. Got a 4 inch 629-3 at the same time for about 750 for both!

Some early model 60s had case hardened stainless parts, and for another period of time (1970s?) they switched back to carbon steel case hardened parts briefly on these and other stainless revolvers.

The Model 629 shown below has a case colored hammer and trigger and bright polish. I bought the revolver directly from S&W so I know it is original. However, it was engraved in 2001 and assembled then also, so it is a special case. Regular production Model 66s and 629s were not fitted with case colored hammers or triggers.

Besides the stated runs of 1960's era Model 60 revolvers S&W used flash chromed trigger hammer combos until the 629-4 and 686-4 with BPZ and BFF serial prefixes.

Bill, do you own anything that wouldn't give the average guy Smith wood...? : ) That's a nice look -- I like the contrast. Was wondering if older CC parts could be put in a 629-1. Then I wondered a step further: why not Turnbull the parts? Rare is the unfaded, non-bland S&W color case. Just a thought.

Keep the pictures coming. Specifically interested in early stainless N frames.

If you look at a popular gun auction site and search for:

S&W Mod 60 NO Dash Case Colored Hammer / Trigger

you'll see one of these. They look darker and less varied in color than the carbon steel parts.

Sorry. Don't know how to post pics. My 686+ is a dash 4, and it has a case hardened hammer and trigger like those pictured on macktheknife's 629-4.

That 65 makes me want to reevaluate .38/.357... Sweet looking gun. The stainless is on the bright side. Was that factory polish, or owner...?

I polished it.
Gun had the factory rough sandblast finish and rust pitting all over.
Actually, its in the local 'smith's shop to be bead blasted back to the original matte.
