Colored Case

Looks like you've acquired one of Lew Horton's Performance Center Heritage Series Model 17-8 (KT22). Obviously yours has the very nice color case hardened frame (PC 170212FC). According to the SCSW 5th Ed., S&W initially released these revolvers in August 2001 and into 2003. That is a little interesting because your s/n prefix (BAL0040) indicates that revolver was probably manufactured sometime between 1988-2000...so perhaps there were 17-8 frames waiting around to be used and the PC grabbed them for the LH series. Regardless, the SCSW reports sales of these revolvers in the $2500-$3500 range. PC and LH also made similar Heritage Series revolvers for other Models during this same period: 10, 15-8, 15-9, 24-5, 25, 25-11, 25-12, 29-9. Enjoy!

Congratulations on a new Revolver. Those
Heritages are very nice Revolvers, made
during a time when Craftsmanship and
Pride was synonymous.

Please give a Range Report when you get
a chance to shoot it.

Thank you for sharing your purchase and
also taking the time to post a pictures.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

Yeah I believe I scored on what I paid for and for what they've sold for at auction. It's interesting that you dated between 1998 - 2000, it was advertised as being between 1996 - 1998, however looking in the 5th addition of the S&W catalog, it only listed 2000 or 2001. Perhaps one of the early additions goes into more detail. I do like the fact that it would seem to be of the earliest ones made. Assuming 40 is referring to the 40th one made? I'm considering at some getting a letter Providence from the S&W association. But thanks for your information. There's also no breakdown as to when the just blued versions were made. I tend to believe in was made prior to 2000. But I only know enough to be dangerous 🫨

You know I'm not one for owning safe queens but I'm considering keeping it as the way it is. But you only live once. I will in the future buy an early version, very early. This one seems lonely in my safe after all🤠IMG_2916.webp

You won't be disappointed if you decide to shoot it. I stopped shooting mine when the values started climbing. When they were introduced, S&W couldn't give them away.
Mine is very accurate, has a great trigger and cleans up easily. I attribute that to the superb polish and bluing.

Wow! A limited addition that nobody wanted, CRAZY!! No one wanted the Colt Boa when they came out. They were too expensive and nothing special. Now they're worth as much as a New Corvette 😳
