Colt Ace

That's what I was thinking.

The owner's manual and the box look quite similar to the stuff that came with my Gold Cup, in 1980, but the price is very similar to what I paid for my Ace Conversion top-half, in about 1983 - 225 if my memory is right. So that would make the entire lower half of the gun only be 40 bucks. Right in that same time I bought an AMT frame, to build a dedicated 22 1911, using a GI parts kit, and the frame alone was 60.

Had to be the 70s, I'm guessing.

It's a "Service Model Ace"
Colt re-introduced these in 1978. Produced up to about 1983. The serial#s of the re-introduced pistols continued on with the 40's era serial# sequence where Colt left off. The serial# prefix starts with a "SM" (Service Model). The first re-introduced pistol serial# was SM14001. Later on in production the Service Model Ace pistols appeared with regular production Government Model serial numbered frames.
I have an early one in the re-introduced series SM14224

A gift from my wife many years ago. A reintroduced SM14455. I have two original mags and the wood. A favorite shooter.

I once owned Colt ACE No. 3751 made around 1932. Had the box and papers too. But alas I was made a fine offer about five years ago and it now resides in Lubbock.
