Colt announces new 3 inch Python

I just received my new Colt/CZ Anaconda in .44mag last month.
If this is an indication of the quality and precision of the new Colt Revolvers, I will be buying many more. CZ has made Colt Great Again.

I know the original 3" was only built in small numbers, but is there something else "magic" about the 3" that makes it more desirable? Balance? Feel? Or just looks?

Nice to see, but a new .38/.357 3" Diamondback would be a much better carry gun, and would offer the same pleasing aesthetics.

I agree. Carrying my 2.5" Diamondback as I type. Don't know I am carrying it. I also carry my new 4' python; I definitely know I am carrying it. I still want a 3" Python.

Depending on how nice these are I might have to look into selling my new King Cobra...

There, fixed it for ya. lol
Glad to hear this, but I still want one in 2.5", but this may have to suffice until then.

FWIW, I called Davidson's just now to place an order and was told that they have some on order, but have not received them.

Told me to have my FFL request/order one for me using UPC# from their distributor, which I take it to mean that it is not an exclusive offering.

Final commentary was that they are hard to get and have my FFL get me on a list...

Davidsons has them up on their site. Thats where I got the info from. Regards 18DAI
Just got first in line at my gun shop for this when one comes in! Thanks' for the heads up 18DAI.

California combat's were 8" regular Python's that had aftermarket work done on them (not by Colt). A Colt letter would show these as shipping to the company that did the barrel modifications (also believe they were initially in .38).

IMO, people have tried to "walk the line" in saying it's a Colt AND limited...while true, it is not a limited run Colt from the factory.

A friend at the last Tulsa show in Nov sold a 3" Python new in the box, 3 smoke rings on the cylinder for $6000. I don't think I need one.

The Python was built on the original model Trooper, so you probably are not missing out on much other than the weight that comes with the full under lug barrel and vent rib of the Python. I have found the 6 inch Python to be more than heavy enough and the 8 inch Python is unwieldly.
Actually I was shooting my 8" Blue Python this morning, I find that the extra weight dramatically reduces muzzle rise over a standard profile barrel

It is interesting to note that for the first few years Colt hollowed out the under lug on the Python. This was stopped to increase the weight of the Python.

There are at least two other differences between the Python and the original Trooper, that is the hand on the python engages the ratchet at two points while the Trooper, like most colts, only engages at one point.

At the time the Python was introduced, the rifling method was unique to the Python. Both of these two issues are credited for the Python's accuracy

The twist of the rifling might also have been different, I am not sure on when that changed on which models

Great, now maybe I will find one of the 4 inch models at a reasonable price.

Can get them at MSRP all day long. Don't plan on doing much better than that, they seem to be holding a solid base price.

Put a deposit on one at my LGS, I'm first in line there. We'll see how that develops. LGS is a pretty good size shop, and get a lot of high end/good stuff in. May take a while, but I'm optimistic they'll get one.

Very ironic, because I was just about to throw down on a 4" Python this week, then I saw the announcement about the 3" version. What timing! To me, the 3" revolvers are very appealing. Really like my 3" 686.

I've got a 2.5", 4", and 6" original Python. Looking forward to owning the 3"!

I agree, they'll probably only go up as the years go by. Better get em while they're hot and I'm not missing out this time around. I too am first in line at my LGS for the 3", already got the 4.25".

Talked to my dealer and gave him the info. His distributor said everything was already in the system and he feels the guns will be shipping soon.I am first in line and pretty confident about getting one.The 3 inch is the best pointing and has the best balance of all the barrel lengths IMO.I always coveted my 3 inch 66`s, the Python will be next to it when it comes.Fingers crossed.

Not to mention, it was the Holy Grail of the old Pythons to have.
