Back in January I posted a thread about a Colt Police Positive. My long time girlfriends father, retired Boston PD, had passed away and we found it while cleaning out his belongings.

The gun dated to 1923 and was in excellent condition except for the nickel plating on the back strap being removed. There was discussion of the gun possibly being a PD firearm. Forum member Absalom was fairly confident on that being the case. I was skeptical because there was no evidence of a stamping on the back strap area. The metal appeared unmolested except for the missing nickel. Too much in question not to get it lettered. I filed for the letter and waited.
Estimated wait was 90 days. Took a little bit longer. I got billed last week. The letter arrived today. I waited on opening it until I went over the GF's house.
Much to my surprise it is a police revolver. Just not Boston Police. Shipped on May 9th 1923 to Joseph A Marks & Co. Factory engraved Detroit Police #3629. One of 37 guns in the shipment. My jaw about hit the floor when I read it.
Detroit was a hot bed of criminal activity during this time with numerous officers killed in gun fights. One can only ponder who carried this and where it has been. If it could only talk.
It is truly an honor to have a connection to it.
