Colt Cobra

I needed an excuse to buy a new gun, so I decided to go with a Pony this time. I've got a 1981 Detective Special, but it's too nice to stick in a holster and bang around, so I picked up one of the "new" Colt Cobra's.

I guess most people here know about it. Not much I can add at this time, but I do like the way it feels. I hope to get it to the range in the next day or two.

And because I can, here it is with it's prettier sister.

I've had mine since mid June, and Love it. In fact I'm wearing it as I type this. Has anyone seen the New King Cobra 4.25" Target Model. I think that It will be my next buy.

It's not bent. It's contoured to guide your finger onto the trigger
Kahr uses the same Shaped Guard on their Steel semi Autos

I guess I'm behind the times but yesterday I watched Hickok45 shooting the new King Cobra. I assumed it was the new target sighted gun but it was an earlier fixed sight. I also took for granted it was the larger frame like the old King Cobra, but it's a D frame like a Cobra. So it's smaller than my 3" S&W Model 13. They all look like fine guns once you except the trigger guard Jimmy mentioned. The target sighted K.C. Is closer to a Diamondback size wise, but no ventilated rib so they couldn't call it that.

Looks like somebody smacked it on a fence post. Just looks bent and "wrong" to this whippersnapper. If you like it, great, I hear the new snake guns are tops.

I'm not sure, but I think that maybe the shape of the trigger guard is intended to discourage one from using the "Cobra" to dispatch a miscreant while wearing gloves. After all, one would not shake hands wearing gloves! How could one consider it proper to shoot (potentially kill) a fellow human being while wearing gloves?

I like the looks of the new Cobra, just wish that it was offered in a blued finish.

I think the trigger guard has to do with the long trigger. Long trigger = more mechanical advantage which means lighter pull. I have a new king cobra and the action is buttery smooth and really light.

I have one and it is probably the best shooting gun in he sage with an amazing trigger. The trigger guard was contoured to fit the larger and angled trigger without making it so large it wouldn't fit many holsters. A brilliant concept IMHO. By angling the trigger and reshaping it, there were able to make the trigger appear lighter and smoother.

I didn't really think too much about the trigger guard. It's just a trigger guard, and really isn't too different from the one on my 642-2.

Not crazy about the Doug Koenig-isk trigger guard and trigger....looks like it belongs on an auto loader. I wish a gen 2 version would fix that.

Cobra is easier to spell than Detective Special.

I agree with you as I have a very nice real Cobra in my safe

Somehow I suspect the name "Detective Special" was picked just as much for marketing reasons as the name "Cobra" was today.

Anyway, I doubt many detectives carry a 38 revolver these days.

I think that Colt is looking to Revive the "Snake Appeal" of the older Generation of Revolvers. Cobra II would probably have been more appropriate. I am Pleased that Colt has Rated this Gun for +P Ammo. I had an Aluminum Colt Cobra in my Younger Days, and Ruined it with less than 4 Boxes of +P Super Vel Ammo. The Shape of the New TG does not bother me at all.
