Colt Cobra

I've been tempted. Anxious to hear your thoughts after shooting.:)

Well, I took it to the range yesterday. I hadn't planned a stop, but the opportunity presented itself, so I just picked up a box of 158 lead, PPU ammo, and verified that it does indeed work. No mechanical issues at all.

Generally speaking I don't care for snubs, but I like this one. That fiber front sight just jumped out at me, which is nice for an old guy with bifocals. The sight picture was right on at 7 yards (the only range available at this place). The trigger is nice. Really nice. Oddly enough I shot it better in D/A than S/A.

The Hogue grip is well, it's a Hogue grip. It fits my hand to a T, and handles the recoil, what of it there was, just fine. It might be a little "tacky" under a shirt, but I think that will wear off as it gets used some.

A HKS speedloader for a K-frame S&W worked just fine.

I like it. It's not as pretty as my Detective Special, but the Special is going to be pretty much as safe princess I think.

I think the newer Colts are ugly. The trigger guard was maybe designed for easier use with gloves.

Do they shoot to the sights? That was often a big problem with older Colts.

I picked up my Cobra new in 2017. Can't tell you why but I just don't like it. I'll sell it to someone cheap if anyone is looking for one.

Just ran across this photo. The Taurus 605 is actually smaller than the Cobra and you can get a laser grip for it like mine.

There are 3 S&W 8 3/8" that I have been looking for but in the mean time, I decided to look for more of the "snake" guns to go along with my Python. I saw this re-introduced Cobra and thought it would go perfectly and it does. Good little gun but the case it came in could have held one of my long barrel Smiths. What a waste of plastic. Bought an old Cobra cardboard box and put the gun in the safe.

Yea...the box is pretty big for the size of the gun, but I figure Colt just has a bunch of boxes that size for simplicity.

Personally I'm a big fan to the old cardboard boxes. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the plastic ones went away.

Any of you Snake collectors in the market for a Viper?
I know where there is one that could be had. It is unfired, in the original cardboard box but without the papers and other box contents.
It has not been offered publicly. I convinced the owners representative (Power of Attorney) NOT to take it to Cabela's.

If you have any interest I can probably provide more info and pictures.

The trigger guard design theory is to keep a gloved trigger finger from getting pinched and hung up between the trigger tip and trigger guard. Kahr uses the same design, and H&K uses the same principle in a slightly different design.
