I have a colt 22semi handgun, it has a set screw that holds the rear site tight for windage adjustment. My set screw is gone..called colt from the # in the manual, they gave me another # for colt parts. Their simply reply was we don't have it. I asked what size the screw was, and their reply was we don't have that information. Customer service..NOT. Never had a issue with Smith, Ruger, or RCBS.

I read a post on another forum that stated that parts that Colt had on hand were sold to Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) and Brownells. As you probably know, Colt has been going through some hard times recently.

Colt's "customer service" has been non-existent for years. Your experience was typical of every contact I've ever had with them over the years. I think that's part of the reason they're in trouble now.

Parts for guns out of production will always be a problem. My experiance with Colts service has been exellent. I've returned a small number of guns for repairs and they have always fixed and returned them promptly. But I haven't tried them for obsolete parts.

Colt used odd-ball, or, "illegitimate" thread screws, so your best bet is to just have that part D&T'ed for a new screw, preferably of a standard size.

I disagree about Colt Customer Service. Go over to the 1911 Forum, then go to the Colt sub-forum. You will find mostly very happy people over there. Colt has a service director that monitors that site and participates with posts, offers help, and takes care of folks. Ask nicely, be polite, etc.

By the way, if they don't have the part, there is nothing they can do, especially on a discontinued model decades out of production for which all parts were sold off to the usual old parts supply houses.

It is not reasonable to expect a manufacturer to maintain a parts inventory for decades after an item is discontinued. S&W certainly does not do it, so it is unfair for you to accuse Colt of not having appropriate customer service.

All I can say is that the my several very bad experiences with Colt's "customer service" had nothing to do with old parts. Of course I wouldn't expect them to keep in-stock inventories of parts for guns long out of production. My problems were with brand new pistols that wouldn't even fire factory ammunition right out of the factory box. One was a 1911 and one was a Detective Special. And I got nothing but the runaround with zero service - none at all. So, that was my experience and my opinion remains the same. Glad you had better luck with them.

Colt is in deep water these days. It really is a sad thing. If they had listened to their customers' requests and continued to make what people want, they might still have a fighting chance. I believe their US military contracts are about all that's holding them together these days. I'd guess that FN Herstal will own them sooner or later.

I have dealt with Colt for years. My last experience with them was a few years ago and it will be just that "my last". Had to return pistol twice for them to get it right and their demeanor was like they were doing me a favor by fixing their error. I'll keep my Colts but won't be buying any others.

What were customer requests from Colt?
