I bought a '72 at a gun show last summer, about 96%, wrong grips, gave $500. I was pretty happy with the deal, though my feeling was that was about all it was worth. I guess it's what people are interested at the moment, look at what's happening to Diamondback prices, they're getting up into Python territory.

Saw a 2 1/2" Diamondback with correct box and papers go for $1400.00 last week... YIKES:eek:

That's crazy. I snagged a 4" Diamondback last November in a local gun shop for $475. It's probably 90%, just holster wear around the muzzle and on the cylinder, but it still locks up tight. The only real downer is that it has DS grips, other than that it's a nice little gun.

Another crazy thing is the cost of original grips, decent original Diamondback grips will run around $150 +/-.

I can understand the D'back price. Well, sort of. But as to the Dick Special,a 2nd model NIB nickel recently sold on GB for $1,475,PLUS shipping!

I bought a similar nickel 3rd Model DS for $500 earlier this year, thought it was a fair deal; very nice gun... It's Colt, so I'm sure it will go up in time, but I don't see the big bucks for a DS, especially a 3rd Model.

Diamondbacks have definitely gone way up. I can see the 2 1/2" ones going for a lot more than the 4" and 6" examples, as the snubs are much less common; especially LNIB ones... I think it's most interesting how the lesser condition guns are getting very high prices, condition does not seem to really be holding back prices on the snake guns.

It will be interesting to see where the Colt snake gun pricing goes. Again, there's a lot of them out there (not 2 1/2s though...), but they always seem to go up... I love mine, and hey, they don't make them any more.

Less than 86,000 made.. as per Diamonback68..:D
Hence.. the higher pricing.. Been chasing these two for many many years....

Never had paid too much,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,....
Just Bought TOO SOON:D:D:D

I picked up a NNIB 3rd gen DSm Nickel at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. Out the door for $400. Saw a NIB 2.5" Diamonback last weekend for $1250. The one that really surprised me was the pricing on Double Eagles. I bought my Double Eagle Combat Commander NIB for $425 (1995). I saw one last weekend, well used, polished bright to cover up use marks for $975. What's up with the pricing on Double Eagles???

It seems like prices on all nice condition colts have been going way up the last couple of years.
I only paid $225 for this nickel DS, excellent condition, but that was 10 or 11 years ago.

I had a chance to buy a "like new" nickel Dick Special at a local shop last summer for $500. The same shop just recently sold a 6" .22 Diamondback with aftermarket Pachmayr grips for $1,100 - are they really that collectible?

If you want to "collect" Colts you need some pretty deep pockets. The revolvers are, and always have been, more expensive than the S&W's. I did not say better, just more expensive. I cannot afford the luxury of "safe queens" anymore. I do however purchase any Colt in the Det Spec format, I can afford. I've got 1 nickle 2nd issue DS, 1 blue Cobra 2nd issue, and 1 blue Cobra 3rd issue. The only Colt I would really like to have is this:

I guess something is going to sell for as much as someone else is willing to pay for it. Boggles my mind sometimes, but I have seen guns sell for up to 50% more than they should have.

That said, I have myself consciously paid "too much" for a gun just because I was tired and worn out looking for one in a certain condition and I just plain wanted it when I found it. For example, last year I bought a Series 70 Colt Gold Cup (mfg. 1974) UNFIRED in the original box. I always wanted one in pristine condition to use for target work, but wanted to put my own dents and scratches in it. I have been looking for a while and to find a 35 year old gun new in the box I knew I was gonna pay! I finally pulled the trigger on one, paid $1300.00 for it, but I am now a happy camper. By the way, since I bought mine, I noticed the prices have crept up past what I paid for my NIB gun, and I have had the joy of shooting it over the past year. Some people just want it now and they obviously don't care about what it cost (or they are just naive).
