Colt Detective Special 3rd issue 38 special six shots. Serial #152XXM places production to 1976. Original manual with exploded diagram in great shape. This gun was owned by my dad, shot very little and has sat in a safe for the majority of its life. Very faint turnline on the cylinder. Timing and lockup are perfect as the gun looks to be about new. Bore and cylinders are perfect. A collector condition Colt Detective Special 3rd issue that continues to increase in value over the past few years.
The Colt Detective Special was is an American carbon steel framed double-action/single action short-barreled revolver first produced in 1927 as a shortened version of the Police Positive Special handgun. As the name "Detective Special" suggests, this model revolver was used as a concealed weapon by plainclothes police detectives. Introduced in 1927, the Detective Special was one of the first short-barreled revolvers produced with a modern swing-out frame. It was designed from the outset to be chambered for higher-powered cartridges such as the .38 Special, considered to be a powerful caliber for a concealable pocket revolver of the day. It was designed for ease of carry and concealment. It is a classic-style, swing out cylinder, double action compact revolver with fixed blade front sight and notch-style rear sights and full length ejector rod.
