Colt Mustang

I prefer the Colt New Agent in 9mm to any of the Mustangs, new or old. I don't have to purchase a different caliber from my SIG 228 or Ruger PC 9 carbine, it packs enough punch for a small auto, it has a beautiful fit and finish, as well as a great slim profile. It won't ever displace any of my J-frames as a primary carry, but it's a wonderful pistol nonetheless, and ammo is the cheapest of anything this side of .22s.

Can't wait to see them. I've had a couple, and loved them; dumb to get rid of them. My stainless pocketlite I put almost 1000 rounds through before the frame began to peen where the rear of the barrel slammed down on it during recoil; and my handloads were somewhat milder than factory.

I also had problems with the trigger: my trigger finger is sorta fat from being run between the belt and pulley of a swamp cooler. It got pinched between the bottom of the trigger and that abrupt shoulder to the groove inside the trigger guard. Does anyone know if they've changed that arrangement?

As for being outdated; I love it since it has the same controls as the Colt Government Model, which in 45 is my main self defense gun.

I have a friend who ordered the new Colt Mustang when they first came on the scene about Sept. and of all things paid for it in advance and he still has not received it. The Gun Shop is a reputable firm and been in business long time. I don't know if I would pay for it until I got it in my hand.

I have one of the original Mustangs from back in the late 90s. I had heard about problems with the plastic trigger and guide rod and replaced them with Scott/McDougle parts. (Now sadly out of business).
What makes it such a great shooter is that unlike most .380s which are blowback operated, The Colts fire from a locked breach like their big brothers. This greatly reduces the felt recoil and increases accuracy.
In my mind, its the best .380 ever made. I love it and have carried it fairly often when a smaller weapon was called for.
BTW: Bought it NIB for $380. I'll never sell it.
