Looking for a DOB and/or ship date for #SCGNO186--assume early gun, partially because of serial number, partially because of fixed sights (Trijicon Night Sights).

COLT serial number lookup has nothing. I'm told these came from the Custom Shop, which perhaps explains that state of affairs.

As a complete aside, it's a rather impressive gun---exquisitely finished, and unexpectedly accurate. By comparison, I had a Master Grade conversion by Wilson Combat of a new 1911 Government Model (for a gazillion dollars). It came with a test target at whatever range it was. I duplicated the range, and fired this gun from a bench. The Wilson gun was as tight as a tick, and made a ragged one hole group. This gun is most assuredly not as tight, and essentially duplicated the group.

Many thanks!

Ralph,
Your serial number comes back as 1994.

Serial Number Lookup - Colt's Manufacturing LLC

I suspect you couldn't find it because you didn't read the serial number correctly. Here's how you interpreted it:

Looking for a DOB and/or ship date for #SCGNO186

You typed the letter "O" when it's actually a zero "0".

No photo, and not even close to enough knowledge to say yours, as a "SPECIAL COMBAT" may very well be a predecessor to the "Special Combat Government".

Here's the whys and wherefores:

Finish: The SCG is finished in Colt's "Royal Blue"----or whatever they call it---akin to S&W's "Bright Blue"------HIGH polish!

Hammer: The SCG's hammer has a large oval cutout.

Trigger: The SCG's appears to be aluminum or some such, has three holes in it, and has adjustable stop.

Grip Safety: The SCG's is of the "Whale Tail" variety---if that's the proper terminology.

Identity: The SCG is identified as such on the left side of the slide with "SPECIAL COMBAT GOVERMENT" in very large block caps.

Safety: The SCG's is ambidextrous.

My knee-jerk reaction to all this is the SCG is all gussied up with these bells and whistles so as to justify the price----which last I knew was over $2000---now with adjustable sight. I say "now", assuming they still make them.

I bought mine sometime in the late 90's, early 2000's as a used gun----absolutely as new, but a used gun---as a carry gun. It remains as new thanks to its holster----a Blackhawk creation of hard plastic, as smooth as a baby's butt on the inside, and adjustable for anything as far as angle of the dangle goes-----AND belt width! It's identified as a CQC holster (Close Quarter Concealment), and carries what might be a model number of C1311. It too remains as new---perhaps to suggest it's indestructible. I don't recall the price, but whatever it was, it's worth it!!

As an aside, I interpret it's serial number SCGN0186 to indicate it's the 186th in the series---don't know the fact of that, but it makes sense.
