Colt Trooper MK III 357: Value, Quality?

I picked up a 6" MKIII in 98% about a year ago, no box, for $650....heck of a deal...love it! they just look awesome....got lucky to find it for that price....you wont be sorry owning it!

I have my OM Trooper in 4" . I don't notice any difference in accuracy as compared to my Smith 686,681, or my fiance's 2/ 586's . If I could afford another , it would be the new Colt King Cobra , 3" barrel looks about right to carry and use . But the prices are " crazy high " right now . I saw a video , a guy had bought one and was changing out the grips . It has the " V- type " main spring like the old Colts do . I liked that . But the rear sight is fixed , not adjustable . Regards, Paul

way to high. The gun has nothing in common w the Python hand fitted action and I would doubt that is has a royal blue. This is a Ruger type action and lots of first gen MIM technology (before it probably was ready). A $450 gun if that...get a M28 and be happy.

The Colt Trooper Mark III was designed by Karl Lewes who also designed the Dan Wesson revolver and Browning Lever Rifle.

I bought a new MKIII back in the early '70s. Mine was nicely finished and very accurate, but the DA trigger pull was so heavy as to make it all but unusable to me. That being said, if it says "COLT" on it, someone would probably give $700.00 for it. I would not pay that much, but someone likely would.

FWIW, I also had a nice pre-MKIII Trooper. That was a fine revolver. More accurate than the S&Ws I had at the time, and a very usable DA trigger. Based on my previous experience, were I currently in the market for a Trooper, I'd look for one of the pre-MKIIIs, or one of the similar "Three-Fifty-Seven" models.....ymmv

@ Sig, that fella was from an Ad if I remember correctly that stated something along the lines of 'His profession is Engineering, his choice is a Colt'. Cool retro ad. I used to have a copy of it somewhere.

I had one of the originals, not a Mark III. It was a good gun and about 10 years ago paid $ 650.00 for it from an old timer at the gun show. I shot it a few times and passed it on so I could buy another Smith. Just always liked them better and the grip/stock/frame angle.

Having said that, I do occasionally 'kick myself' for having sold it. I always have thought 'if you are going to own one handgun', this would be a great contender for that title. Best, TH
